Terry's idea but I thought I would give it a try. To tell the truth, neither of us feel a soft tip bolt is needed, but hey this was an easy experiment. Sorry for the poor picture quality.

Cool. Out of curiousity, what bolt pressure is stock for the Onyx? I haven't heard of anyone chopping.

I'm currently running the LP side at 80psi, the marker was designed to run LPR in the 65 to 90psi range, with little effect on velocity or efficiency. Factory preset is in the 75-80psi range.

And all I been doing is shuffling multiple unlawful detainer cases the last 2 days. Not to mention looking for a hauler for the Bob Long Technologies vendor show trailer. And you get all the fun, now you just need some of that hellfire peddled at SD.

It ain't all fun and games. I did it after a sweaty itchy day of making carbon fiber dust. Poor John though! His new class schedule has him in a course at 6:00pm on Wednesdays, which means he has to dust himself off as much as possible and go to school with that crap all over him. I wonder if he noticed that big black smear on his face that I let him walk out of here with, before some cute little college girl told him about it? On second thought, with that hot girlfriend of his, he probably could care less what his female classmates think.
The bolt mod was literally a five minute deal.
1) Clamp bolt on mill.
2) Center tool to bolt face.
3) Cut.
4) Glue in ball stop.
5) Unscrew existing bolt from end of ram (easy to do on my particular gun because, because....well lets just say you warned me) and screw on modded bolt after applying a thread locking agent.

The one thing I see from a physics stand-point with this mod is the Detent Coming loose & flying off, leaving those sharp edges exposed and can make contact with a ball and Chop Sewey.

The edges of the detent that protrude into the Venturi holes is enough to trap enough air that'll eventually (I think it'll be in a rather short amount of time given the exorbitant amount of violent pressure provided by the air) destroy the glue's bond causing what I suspect. However it's a great idea in principal that I hope proves my concerns to be wrong.

You Damned Techies... Always looking for that edge!

Good call Rob and I was worried about the same thing. I did use a healthy dose of Black Max, but.....
I think I might run a sharp bit into each of the holes to remove the ball stop's slight overhang into them.

Martin,
You know I will do yours for you if you want me to.

Most of the bolts that I've seen have had a curved face to them. Is there a reason for the flat face bolt for the Onyx?

JKW - If you were going to the trouble to mill the center and glue a rubber portion onto the front center of the bolt, I am curious why you did not mill the front outer edge and glue an o-ring there to give a more uniform contact point between the bolt face and the paintball.

Sharp scalpel or exacto knife might be easier than lining up a bit that may also snag the detent...

You'd be amazed at the amount of plastic (and aluminium parts) I 'adjust' with a scalpel.

Has Bob worked out his bolt speed? With the fast cycle rate he's running his bolt speed has got to be quite high too...

He's pushing less mass, and with the same diameters and pressures as a timmy... so his bolt will be significantly faster. That's great for ROF (as noted with this gun), but can be a pain with really, really fragile paint as the inertia of the ball is quite high (especially with the heavier hellfire paint) in relation to the impulse from the bolt as bolt speeds start getting over 8fps...

Is the bolt tip convex? or is that just the way the photo was taken?

Gutted I haven't been at an event for ages to see how this gun developed.

I WILL be at Commanders Cup and World Cup for sure though.

Let me know how that goes....I haven't tried it yet, but I think even with the Debounce on (HELP ME WILL!!) setting, I'll still get some bounce.

Ah, but the convex bolt face is important. Not sure how much I can reveal just yet (to be truthful, I am not sure I actually understand enough to elaborate more anyway) but lets just say that for now it is a good thing for the gun to be able to "see" the gap between the bolt and ball that results from the way the curved faces meet.
