I'm thinking of getting the Dell XPS M1530
IS this a good laptop. I'm going to be using it mostly for school and emails and stuff like that. So I need it to perform fast and not have problems.

Any recommendations on what I should get it with or if not this laptop another kind. I am looking to spend about 1,500 on one.

P.S. what is like 64 bit Vista or w.e. And 32 bit?
Thank you

You guys may remember me a while back trying to find a good laptop for college, and I still haven't picked one, which is pissing me off.

My dad is the main issue with picking one, he insist he is right about everything. He wants me to look at a bunch of reconditioned laptops, but I'm not really sure I'm down for having a computer someone else had, even if it is fixed or whatever. Has anyone had experiences with reconditioned laptops?

My Mom wants a laptop for her college classes, and she told me to look around and see what was good. She's buying it with her Christmas bonus, so I told her to wait around for those deals, but I guess she wants kind of a preliminary estimate.

I have a Dell, and it's decent, but I've definitely seen better deals for considerably cheaper. I always hear about HP and Toshiba being good, but I just wanted a guide to a good brand.

I do, and it ended up fine. My roomate had one and it sucked though. Luckily, he had a warranty and got it replaced for free. It was a pain, since they insisted on trying to "fix" it first, but eventually they sent him a new one and he sent them back the broken one.

I would say, it's iffy, but as long as you can get a warranty to back it up, and are willing to risk the inconvenience, go for it.

As to the kid's mom, other than the arbitrary "how u doing? ", I would tell her to wait. I remember reading something about a new chipset being released sometime around christmas that will make the prices on the current technology drop significantly. That, and there are sometimes amazing black friday deals.

I would get the extended warranty, but I really don't feel like forking out $130 for a year. I figure if something bad happens to it, it'll happen within the first 30 days. Outside of that it'll probably be something that can be fixed easily.

My dad said that he was going to get me a laptop for my birthday to get me off the household computer. He said he was looking around on ebay for something 200-250ish but him knowing nothing about computers I told him I'de find something. I'd be mostly just surfing the web and doing photoshops here and there. I want something that can at least write cd's and do the wireless internet stuff. Which brings me to my next question, I know nothing about wireless internet. If I just hook up a wireless router to the internet deal at the house then what would the laptop need to pick that up?

I know with a budget so low I dont have a lot of choices but I stumbled along this and was wondering what you guys thought. Also if you had any more recommendations or comments I'd appreciate it.

I have a couple of questions regarding getting the most bang for my buck.
I'm in the market for a laptop, since we only have 1 computer in the entire household that everyone loves to hog, and I have work to do on it for college. Gets kinda inconvenient at times and annoying.

I've been browsing around best buy and 3 laptops caught my eye:

Number one
http://www.bestbuy.com/site/olspage....2146120 38399

Number two
http://www.bestbuy.com/site/olspage....2133999 70436

And number 3
http://www.bestbuy.com/site/olspage....2130467 85626

Questions.

The first and third laptop have 3 gigs of ram, and the second one has 4. Is it worth the price difference to go with a 4 gig laptop off the bat ?

I also have the option of upgrading my laptop to vista ultimate with the second laptop for 70 dollars from vista home premium.... is the ultimate that much better than the home premium ?

Last one.
The second laptop has the AMD Turion X2 Ultra mobile processor ZM-80 in it, again, is it worth the price difference to get it ?

3GB is plenty. My laptop has 4, but I dont really need it.
I would rather get a laptop with Intel tho. And try to find one with a graphics card with dedicated ram.

Mine is a ATI Radeon HD 2600, and has 512mb dedicated ram. Those ones might, but check them out. If they do. The first one is your best bet.

I need a good laptop for school, mainly just word processing and internet surfing etc. so it doesn't have to be powerful. I need it to be under 13" so I transport it easily. Suggestions?

Edit: I was looking at the Acer Aspire One, anyone know anything about them?

Guys, I personally wouldn't suggest anything HP. My dad has an Hp before, and he got the blue screen of death thing, and his hard drive basically crashed. For seemingly no reason at all. I tried reformating it but it just would not work.

Also, where the cord plugs into the computer, that little plug in the comp itself had to be replaced at least 3, maybe 4 times, because it kept coming unsoldered. And that ended up costing a lot of money overall.

We also have a hp printer that just died one day, but luckily it was under warranty. We also have an hp desktop, and that did some crap a while back and I had to reformat it.

I have a toshiba laptop that Ive had for 5, maybe 6 or 7 years now. And it's held up pretty well. My dad also has a toshiba laptop which is pretty nice. So from personal experience those seem to be pretty nice.

That's the laptop I'm looking at. Lmk if any of you guys have experience with gateways, and if they're any good.

Yeah I also had a HP laptop that randomly died on me but something inside burned out and couldnt turn it on anymore so no more HP's for me... I never had a problem with my gateway desktop, but recently my friend purchased a M-series laptop from gateway and its constantly freezing I dont know if its a hardware malfuction or software problem but hes having a hard time with it. But I also heard good things on the FX series you just posted, here is a review hope it helps. http://reviews.cnet.com/laptops/gateway-p-7811fx/4505-3121_7-33201021.html?tag=mncol;lst
