FYI: You can buy a Dell E1505 for $659 shipped until the end of this month. All other laptops at Dell are 20% off. I just built a rediculous E1705 with a 2gHz processor, 7800 Go, and 2GB RAM for $1500. I may end up buying another laptop.

I've been thinking of getting a laptop for myself lately, price range is around 1500, plus or minus a few hundred. I am a big fan of Mac's, and having one that I could run bootcamp on and have XP and tiger is a big plus. The only problem is, it seems that Macs are really expensive for what you get. Any ideas or pointers as to what I should do, and I'm not deadset on getting a Mac, it's just something that I like

Also for the people still looking at laptops for school, I just got an email from Dell Small Business. Inspiron 6400s (the top-end 15" laptops Dell carries) are $749 (base model) until August 30th. I built a kick-*** one for around $1400 on their site. The D620s (top-end business laptops) are $999, but I doubt most of you would want one of those.

I think Fujitsu makes some nice ultraportables, thugh they are far from inexpensive.

950s will get most of your average computing done without any problem. dont try to play games on a 950 vid card though, your laptop will cry.

the 7400 and x1400 are right around the same performance. will play most games on, at the very least, medium settings.

personally, i would go with the 7400 if given the choice.
