Those #s were more or less straight line estimates between zip codes, not accurate in the slightest.

PBN is charging fields to get extra info on them included in the field listings

this must be why none of my submitted revisions have gone through

If your revision hasn't showed up it's because we are being swamped with them. I'm going through some right now actually.

That's disappointing. So if I see a field or store I'd like to visit, I have to resort to Google to actually find their site.

Combined with my inability to get two modifications to local fields/stores actually accepted (I sumbitted them almost four months ago - makes me doubt the accuracy of all the listings), that really destroys the usability of the field guide, which I used to really like.

Thanks for your input.

Can you give me more detail regarding the updates that didn't happen?

Recent edits are behind but stuff that was submitted before the recent upgrade of a few days ago should have been updated on the listing.

I just want to make sure we don't have a "bug" in the edit system.

Yes, like other sites we are now charging for enhanced listings.

This should help separate the real fields and stores from the crappy weekend $5 non-insured, flight-by-night fields.

Again thanks for your input.

I posted updates that FSL Paintball and Splat-You're-Out (both in Minnesota) closed their doors months ago. At the time, both places' websites had "goodbye" pages up, so it was easy to prove. Now SYO's site is gone. Inexplicably, both of these stores are "Ultimate" members, which is odd considering that they don't exist at their listed addresses any more.

At nearly the same time, I submitted the info to get Splatball's Rogers store inserted into the listings, which happened within a couple of days.

And I can't disagree more with your sentiment about smaller stores. In my opinion, they're what keeps the sport healthy and diverse. Since not all Small places are "non-insured, flight-by-night fields", I think you're throwing the baby out with the bathwater.

It's your site and your call, obviously. I don't run a large site with gajillions of hits per day, nor do I run a paintball store, so my opinion probably isn't worth all that much. I'm just a paintball player, and I like spending my paintball money at small, legitimate businesses because in my experience they're the ones who actually deserve it and the ones who make the sport enjoyable because they care about it.

We have had some bugs in the "revision" process in the past, prior to the upgrade. Since the is a process which requires approval from human beings, we now have more sets of eyes on these revisions to ensure that they get done.

That being said, if you have submitted revisions in the past that haven't gotten done, feel free to resend them. It only takes a second, and it helps improve the quality of the field listings for everyone.

Thanks for your reply.

Please understand that my comment about the "non-insured, flight-by-night fields" was directed at ANY field that operates without proper insurance, safety staff, safety procedures and/or safety training for players.

These fields threaten our sport everyday with their careless operation and disregard for safety. They should be eliminated or brought into compliance with generally accepted standards of safe operations for a paintball field.

I am pretty sure that if you reread my post you will not find any mention of eliminating any small business either fields or stores. In fact I did not mention stores at all. Small businesses are the backbone of this sport and often if run properly turn into industry leaders.

We do run the largest paintball web site and we do have a policy of helping small business as best we can. As you are aware there is still a listing category that is free.

The current Ultimate and Premier listings were generated randomly to give examples in each state of the listing type. Go figure that a dead store gets the top listing…

Again thanks for your comments and we will endeavor to keep both the baby and the bath water intact.

Thanks

There is no doubt that in our listing of 1200+ fields that there is some inaccurate information. However, if you go look at the competitions listings, you won't find nearly the same amount of information that we have here. Nobody else out there has taken the time to do what we have done, which up until now (the past year or so) has been a totally 100% free service.

Even today, with the introduction of tiered listings, we are still offering 100% free listings to all of the fields and stores that have been listed. Even if we aren't linking to the websites of Partner fields, you're still able to pick up the phone, or find directions easily using google maps.

I think given the quality of our field listings, and the amount of exposure a field gets from being listed here on PBN, that the paid listings and their
features are a great value for an entire years worth of benefits.
