Let us see IP addresses... In a different way

Well, seeing that there are numerous problematic users who leave themselves feedback with second, third, fourth, etc. accounts, we should be able to see the IP address of each account in the feedback thread. Because this can give away other information, we should not see the real IP address. Instead, we should see a random string of numbers in place of the IP address. The same IP address would have the same string of numbers. This way, we could see if the accounts have the same IP address, without seeing the actual IP address.

Instead of --.--.--.--., we would see 128797326586325.

Too easy to reverse engineer the algorithm.

That's why it would be a RANDOM string of numbers.

Why do you need to see an IP?

Read the first sentence. That's not like you to miss it, Andy.

It's hardly random if it's an algorithm that can be applied to the same IP address multiple times with the same output every time.

Let me explain this in more detail. The first IP address gets assigned a RANDOM number. All matching IP addresses are also assigned that RANDOM number.

Massive database cost. Not likely.

I was saying that you missed the first sentence, which explains why we should see IP addresses, and it was not like you to do that.

I think maybe an easier way to accomplish your goal is to raise some sort of alarm (most likely an automatic report to the mods) when the same IP shows up more than a threshold number of times in any given feedback thread.

How about just having it show other accounts made by that user...

But I know that wont happen, even mods have alias's they use for other things.

Because there's no way to know which computer is at the other end of the internet? Not unless you can somehow get your hands on a MAC address, and even that can be spoofed without massive effort.
