How Often..

..do you play with your Etek5?

I'm interested to know how often you guys use your Etek5's.

Do you use them as your Primary or back-up?

Do you play all through the year or just a couple of months due to weather?

Do you get out every weekend or once a month?

Do you play renegade, walk-on, big game or tourney?

Feel free to go into as much or as little detail as you like. But it would be great to hear everyones Etek5 habits.

Just bought mine as my loaner/back-up, the kind of marker that I always keep in my gear bag. My "main" marker is a Geo 3.5. I used to have an Etha as a loaner/back-up marker but the GF of a friend of mine loved it so much that I sold it to her, hence why I needed a new marker to fill that slot. I never needed to use the Etha or Etek 5 as a back-up however, never had any issues occur with my principal marker.

At some local fields, owning 'speedball' gear is frowned upon. That's where I find the EMC kit very useful. I had one with my Etha and coupled with me donning camo clothing I was able to play without being harassed. When PE will release that kit for the Etek 5 I will surely acquire it. It will also allow me to mount an LED light for the few times I play interior games and protect the marker from the sand at a particular place I sometimes play at which can wreak havoc on markers.

I play recball games at local fields, and attend 4-5 big game events per year. I never play on speedball courses. I spend half of the time playing in a forest. I usually play against other equipment owners. If I drive up to a field one morning and there's like a handful of equipment owners I do play with rentals but I use my pump marker (Empire Sniper).

In the winter I play at interior fields a few times, then from spring to fall I (mid-April to mid-November) I play 2-3 times a month on average. I usually shoot a case of paint per outing.

I live in Canada and the weather varies a lot. Summers are quite humid and our winters are brutal. When we play in the early Spring or late Autumn, the cold weather may affect the gear adversely. We need to shoot winter paint for sure. Some markers (like balanced spool valves) are more likely to experience issues than others. However so far with my PE markers I never had any issues. Sometimes I'll have to make minor adjustments, like turning the 'high power' function for the solenoid on a Geo, or raising the LPR a bit on an Ego/Etek.

I really like the Etek 5. Feels *exactly* like the Ego 11 I had a few years ago... but I paid a lot less for it!

1) I play every weekend unless life gets in the way... probably averages to 3 out of every 4 weeks of the month.

2) The Etek is my primary.

3) Being in Texas I get to play pretty much year round, prefer to avoid playing in the rain, but sometimes you can't avoid it.

4) I do walk-on rec ball, big games, tourney styled drills to practice the basics, but don't play tournaments.

5) I tend to re-lube the bolt and rammer once a week, and run anywhere from 20-100 shots through her mid-week for practice or to let off steam.

I don't get to use my Etek5 that often myself as I manage a paintball field but it usually gets used once a week by someone else.

The marker is my backup/loner/store test marker as well as the marker I use in bad weather and at rocky paintball fields. My primary is a GSL so I am kind of over protective of it.

I will play in any weather and would use or loan out the Etek5 in any weather.

I play whenever I get the chance(a game or two here and there) and play 4-5 scenario events a year.

I get the occasional walk-on game in but other than that I play Scenario mostly.

I sold my Ego11 to get a Etek5. I got it last weekend and plan on using it as my primary. I have a Ego7 as my backup.

The only 2 things I've noticed on my Etek5 are:
The OLED Kick In param on my printed manual says 3.3 PPS - 10 PPS
my OLED board(V1.10) has adjustment of 4.8 PPS - 10 PPS
and the online manual says 5.0 PPS - 10 PPS
Ideally I would like the 3.3 PPS back as I play in MILP where the rule is still 3.3 PPS kick in and sustained.

Also the feedneck doesn't feel too well. A metal feedneck would be much more ideal. I know that would add to the cost but given how much flex there is on this material and how tightly i have the collar snag down, I can see a hopper flying off on a bad dive.

Other than than I put about 2 cases and it shot really nicely. It felt better than my Ego11 by a long shot.

I love the new front setup where the LPR isn't in your way.

primary (thinking of etha as backup if its gonna get the rubber grip upgrade as etek5 next time a bigger upgrade is done)

Do you play all through the year or just a couple of months due to weather?
1-2 times a month and possible every weekend in winter then reball season starts.

Do you get out every weekend or once a month?
yes

Do you play renegade, walk-on, big game or tourney?
WO/tourney

I'm a tourney player and went from a Geo 3.5 to the Etek 5 and was thinking that it would end up as a back up marker but I like it so much that I see no need to put it in the bag. It shoots great and the sound signature is much better than I was expecting.

I too have the same issues as noclue119
My OLED board will only let me set to 4.8 pps and not 3.3 as I would like?
I purchased an ego feedneck for it (much better).

It is a great marker for a great price but PLEASE fix the OLED kick in parameter!

Thanks for the feedback guys.

Haze, just had a chat about this with 7lash, or software guy.

There is a reason for the higher kick-in setting. But, we may have come up with a solution that gets us around the issue we have (PSP v Millennium mode legalities).

I'll keep you posted.

I must be in the wrong profession. Unfortunately my pay grade doesn't allow me to have a $560 paintball gun as a "loner/backup".

Do you use them as your Primary or back-up?
I'm a sort of a gun whore. Last year I had a DM14 and liked it but this year I bought a etek 5 which impressed me so much I sold the dm14 and I use a reflex as a backup. So to answer your question..the etek5 has become my primary as of now. This is my first PE gun and I love it. It does persuade me to buy something on the high end in regards to PE...mabey a lv1 or Geo...the world will never know

Do you play all through the year or just a couple of months due to weather?
I usually play from march till world cup

Do you get out every weekend or once a month?
As often as I can but usually once or twice a month max

Do you play renegade, walk-on, big game or tourney?
I play tourney, big game, and walk-on. its 90% tournament ball though.

My Etek5 gets used every weekend here in South Dakota. It's my primary speedball setup. It gets used in the woods as well but usually by other players since I can't just leave my T15 in the bag for very long.

My Etek5 has impressed everybody at the field amongst the Geo, LV1, and Bob Long shooters. Everyone has tried it too and we all still can't believe that it bears the Etek name. Just a remarkable mid end gun.

I don't play tournaments usually, but I will be fielding the Etek5 at an upcoming tournament at Gillette, WY in August. It's mostly been just drills and casual speedball play so far.

My only gripes is that I'm not a huge fan of a plastic feedneck. Probably gonna slap an Ego feedneck on there. But I also really wish this thing had the POPS ASA!!

Hey Jack;

I just got mine and I will be using it between several types of play. Recall mainly, but also; hyperball, air ball, woodsball, and a tall grass field with bunkers and forts in it. I suspect the quality and reliability of this marker will hold up. And I hope so cause I play rough with my gear. I'll reply after I play tomorrow with playing details.

The marker felt fantastic! Not sure if this was reported elsewhere, but it felt like I was shooting under velocity. I made sure several times I was around 285, but it always felt like it was shooting around 150-200. Not complaining, I love that it feels like that. Just a very nice surprise.

I use my Etek 5 as my primary. Shot almost every kinda modern marker out there... sold most... changed from tournament guns to magfed and back...

I play 1-2 times a month - usually walkons or big games. Can't play tournaments due to the discs in my back (gonna have to have injections for life). May try a 3 man in August for ****s and giggles.

I'm the kinda guy who likes "new shineys" - usually I buy a marker and love it - then sell it soon after... but I have no desire to buy another marker as I love how the Etek 5 shoots. I was never a fan of poppets, but I really don't feel it is like one (I know it is, but the bolt pin isn't distracting for some reason).

Only change... the LPR metal housing (the one with the two flattened parts) - some times that part spins when turning the LPR, so the LPR doesn't adjust. I'd put a ridge in the LPR outer cap that slots over the flattened part to stop it moving.

Other than that, great, great gun and a massive step forward from the Etek 4.

So I have good and bad news to report.
Took my first core sample of my life @ MILP.... Gun frame did not bent at all. thank you composite.
Feedneck did fly off as I thought it would.

Overall the gun shot amazingly well.

It's the everyday shooter. Absolutely love the marker - had a few moments last weekend where I looked at the marker and only then remembered it wasnt an LV1 or something similar. Only thing that bothers me is that at the bottom of the reg, the grip material has released from the regulator allowing the material to slight turn. That said, it only bothers me when I'm not actually playing.

I think you will find that the reg bottom has just come loose. Peal the reg sleeve back, tighten up the reg bottom/cap. Wipe it clean with some solvent/spirits, including inside the bottom of the sleeve. And then pop the sleeve back on.

Should be nice and tight again.
