Comprehensive upgrade/mod thread
Okay, I've finally gotten done with all my mods and such so here's the thread I've promised for a week or so.
First, I'll list the part (in priority of needing upgraded) then I'll list the best upgrades for it. after all that, I'll list the mods, a quick description of how to do them, a link to their first thread, then my personal experience with it.
Feedneck: The stock feedneck does not clamp, which can make your hopper not fit and render your gun useless. There are a plethora of clamping feednecks, and they all do pretty much the same thing. The gun takes alias/timmy threaded feednecks. make sure you are not buying cocker threaded feednecks, as some older intimidators used those.
you can buy feednecks here or here
Barrel: It's a stock barrel. just like all other stock barrels, it gets the job done, but could definitely use some improvement. - Stiffi: made out of carbon fiber so it is extremely light, and it is well made and pretty accurate. you can buy it here
- Ultralight: Dye hones there barrels very nicely so you'll always know you're buying quality. available here
- there are also quite a few kits out there. I prefer the Lucky 15, as you're buying 3 seperate barrels, not a bunch of inserts or little backs.
- Bang for your buck: CP one piece: you can buy it here CP barrels are very high quality, and their one pice is just as good as their 2 piece, but quite a bit cheaper.
Bolt: The bolt isn't slotted so it eats your detents, has no o-rings, so it's gonna get blow back up your feedneck, is low flow, and has a lott of extra weight in the back.
Reg and Reg adapter: The stock reg isn't horrible, but it is a real turn off for many people to have the stock reg on there since you cannot just throw any regulators on the gun. There are currently two regulator adapters available for the defiant. The Violnet Products adapter, which keeps the reg up close to the grips frame, like stock, and the Custom Products, which moves the reg forward a bit. those can be bought here: Violent Products Custom Products
there are tons of regulators available. and all of them will fit those adapters. CP, AKA, and evolve are the regulators of choice for most people. you can buy regulators here
Trigger: The trigger is a comfort thing. some people love the Alias trigger and will wait to upgrade it or even not upgrade it at all. some people (such as myself) will hate it and change it almost right away. the Defiant takes gen 3 style bearing triggers and any older triggers that don't have a bearing in them. - CP: Custom Products offer 2 popular styles of triggers. the rake, which is the standard blade style trigger, and the sling blade which bends out forward a little on the bottom. you can buy both of these at compulsive paintball. Sling blade Rake
- New Designz: The offer 2 trigger styles as well. the Edge, which is very similar the the rake CP trigger, and the sabre, which is similar to the CP sling blade. they can be found Here and here
- Techna Triggers are also very sought after. They are expensive and there is quite a long wait for them. you can buy them at www.technatriggers.com
Board: The stock board does everything it needs too, and is legal for just about any tourney out there, but there are definitely better boards out there. - Tadao Infamous: this board is extremely fast and very user friendly. it runs on a multi color (i think 9 colors) LED with tons of adjustability. you can buy it at www.tadaotechnologies.com
- *********** board: it has a specific name, which i cannot say as it will be filtered out. This board is also very fast and extremely adjustable. I cannot give the website, as it is also filtered.
- Bang for your Buck: lucky un1 chip board. It fits intimidators and defiants. it allows you to put dm4/5/c chips in your gun, so you can buy 2 chips for the price of 1 board. The lucky board and codex chip(i own it, it's a good chip) can bot be found Here
Make sure you buy the membrane (M) board, and not the button (B) board.
Membrane pad: By the time you upgraded all the stuff mentioned above, you'll probably notice you'll have to really press in your membrane buttons to get them to work, or it might have stopped working all together. Advantage makes a membrane for the Timmy that is guaranteed to never die on you. if one goes out, they will replace it free of charge. you can buy them from compulsive here but unfortunately, i cannot give you their home website.
Adjustable ram cap: You may have noticed every now and then you'll get a random chop, well that's because of the placement of the bolt in your breech. the stock ram cap is designed to let the bolt sit flush with the feedneck, so any ball can get in. but with smaller paint, the ball comes in AND the top of the next ball. you then cut off the bottom of that next ball and then its a mess. An adjustable ram cap allows you to push your ram(and thus bolt) forward so you can move it to the perfect position.
Now make sure you get a 2k5 bumperless ram cap, not an older one. They all do the same thing, and they all cost around $20, so looks is the only difference with these. you can find the CP and hybrid designs here and here
Grips: Grips are another comfort item, but mostly they are for looks. you may want to get hogue grips or dye stickeys because they are lighter than the stock ones, or maybe you need one with an lcd window if you bought an LCD board, but thats about it. - Dye grips: these are made of rubber and get tackier as you play with them, so after a while they'll be nice and soft and conform you to your hand. you can buy them here make sure to get the .45 style grips. not the matrix or angel style.
- Hybrid grips: hybrid grips are hard plastic or rubber wrapped over metal, so they might not be as comfortable as dye grips and they are quite a bit heavier than any other grips out there, but they look darn cool. click here to see the different styles
- Bang for your buck: Hogue grips: they are black hogue plastic grip panels. they are cheap, comfortable, and not too bad looking on an all black gun. they are somewhat hard to find new, but tons of guns have them stock and people are constantly selling them used.
(continued on next post)

Internals: There aren't many performance enhancing parts out there for the defiant out right now, but there are a few things you can do that will help. First, you have barbs and hose, then there are different lpr internals you can install. As far as barbs go, hybrid is the only option. They are fairly expensive for what you get and will yield minimal gains, which is why they are a lower priority. But the barbs and hoses are higher flow than stock, and they are made of SS so they are much more durable than stock. you can find them here but they are currently out of stock.
next are the regulator pistons. If you kept the stock regulator, or got a check it powerstation or Hybrid R-drive reg, you can get an HPR delrin piston found here. And you can also get a Delrin LPR piston. now there are two types of pistons to choose from. the VP found here has one o-ring on it. then there is the PBK piston found here with two o-rings. the two orings will be a tad bit more consistant, but the reduced friction from the 1 oring on the VP piston should allow you to run a slightly lower pressure. Now while this will give you a bit of a performance jump, it should be one of the last things you swap out because when new, teh stock piston works great. but as you play, it wears out. the delrin is self lubricating and slick so it will not wear nearly as fast, so it should stay new for quite a long time (longer than you own the gun, most likely)
ACiD internal kit: I have since sold my Defiant, so there was no way for me to test this or anything, but I will post it here as I've heard good reviews about it. you can contact acid customs here
that about wraps up the upgrades, now onto the modifications. they are ordered from most performance enhancing to least performance enhancing(in my opinion)
MRM you redrill drill the holes in the ram housing. read more here opening up the holes makes for a higher flow, allowing you to lower your lpr, and it also helps efficiency.
T-chop Ram mod you polish your ram so that it slides a bit smoother. more on it can be found here this lowers the friction on your ram, allowing you to lower your lpr.
springless valve you take the spring out of your valve. read about it here This allows you to lower your lpr pressure a bit, but has varying effects. it does wonders for some, others it actually hurts performance. i suggest just trying it out for a day, and if it doesn't do anything or hurts your gun's performance, put it back in.
QEV you drill and retap your middle barb hole, then put a QEV on there. you can also do it to the very back one, but that's going to take some modding to your frame. read here so far, I'm the only one to try it on a defiant, and it helped a little. the gun goes a little faster now (hits 26 instead of 24 on full auto w/o shootdown) and it let me lower my dwell by half a milisecond, but i couldn't lower my lpr and it had no effect on efficiency.
Bolt mods you cut and dye your bolt, and even get a delrin pin for it. info on delrin pins and info on cutting your bolt Now unless you are trying to strip it to bare bones, like i did, this has no more than a cosmetic effects. but if you get a delrin pull pin, nylon set screw, clip your spring, and cut the back of your bolt ALL the way down, there will be enough of a wait difference for you to turn your lpr down a TINY TINY bit. but once again, this is mostly for show.
and that about wraps it up. I hope this proves useful. if anyone notices any major problems, let me know. I'll be sure to update this as more upgrades come out (t-chop, waiting for your ram )
enjoy.

another mod: sanding down the white spacer on the ram with very fine grit sandpaper. it is supposed to reduce kick and some say increase efficiency and they can lower their lpr pressure, but i didnt notice any difference

The D2 DOES NOT take GEN4 Triggers. NONE.
ONLY Gen3 and below Triggers will fit.

Why? because the button pad they make is FUG-LEE. And it only has 2 buttons, which I don't understand. Where did the 3rd button go? And does it work fine without it?

it works fine without it because the chips used in un1 board are from DMs. DMs only have two buttons. Which means only two buttons are of any use.

Isn't there a mod that you can do to the front of the bolt in that you like file down the top part that goes under the feedneck (like the ego bolt so that it slides under the balls instead of chopping. If so what should I use to file it down? Thx.

My mod worked to perfection. I have used it twice, once on semi, and once on NXL full auto. Did not chop a single time. I recomend this mod.
