Where you affected by "A Day without an Immigrant"?
Being its nearing the end in the infamous "A Day without an Immigrant" demonstration. I would like to know if you where effected and to what extent if any at all. Please I don't want this to turn into a for or against illegal immigrants, there are plenty of threads in this forum for that.
Personally I was not effected, infact my business did more then the previous year. I didn't see any pickets, I didn't see any businesses being closed, I didn't see anything out of the ordinary.

Your not in Los Angeles so your businesses weren't affected. The businesses here had to close during mid-day because they came and threatened to destroy everything unless they close immediately.

It's funny because around here there is a huge latino population. There are tons of mexican resturants and many working class mexicans. Yet none did anything.

I forgot it was even going on...
That's not to say that I don't completely appreciate what they're doing though, because I do. I love seeing an effort by the masses to get something accomplished, a real grass roots movement, I love it.

Didn't see any issues up here in seattle, and i live next to a major university. Didn't hear any rallies or protests. I know we have immigrants (legal or otherwise) in WA, but for the most part it seems as though today had more of a latino element and we just don't have many illegals up here. Eastern WA maybe since there is alot of farmland, but not so much out in the western half.

Stuff like that makes me so pissed off. That isn't protesting. That is intimidation and flat out crime. However, I do not expect much from them in the first place; a great many are nothing more than low life thugs. **** them, they can go back to where they came from.

it's ironic, really. the naturalized hispanics have a steady income and can miss a day of docked pay- SOME. but those who they're protesting in favor of, who're probably living on the brink, worked today, because it's just another day, and they need the pay. fake activism really gets me..

Oh sorry, did I miss something today? No, cannot think of anything...I have my keys, check....
So feel free to go ahead and show us Mr. Illegal Immigrant. Pack up and head back to your country of origin and laugh at our suffering over your loss. There might even be tears...

Childish. How they figure actions like this are going to further their cause is beyond me. And the fact that the California Legislature condoned these marches pisses me off to no end. 'We're going to block the entrance to the port to show how badly America needs illegal immigrants." Its just counterproductive.

I think they did nothing but alienate themselves further by the walk out and the Spanglish anthem crapola.

I live in MN so not much happened here but on another note I thought that the amount of 'I wasn't affected at all' votes is kinda funny in itself

Only area with high immigrant populations would be affected.

Maybe not in Cincy but we still have an immigrant population here in MN
http://news.minnesota.publicradio.or...me/index.shtml
plus I believe we have the largest buddhist population as well I read somewhere; also if 25 people were randomly surveyed here in ST, you don't know if they live in highly populated areas now do you?

This is why youre wrong: First of all why do you so quickly believe that? Second of all why do you generalize the population who participated in these protests as those kinds of people? How do you even know how many of those people who participated were actually illegal?
Like I said earlier, I know 50+ people who went to the protests in San Francisco, none of them were illegal.

First off Id like to say I am Mexican and my dad is from Mexico. He came into this country legally with Luci Banes Johnson helping him. He also went to college, graduated, and then worked for IBM computers till he died. These protests and what these people want is a slap in the face to all the people to work their ***** off to be citizens. Esentially, all these people are doing is using America. They dont like it, they just want money. Someone sent me this in an Email.
How would it be if we went to Mexico illegally and waved the U.S. flag
around while demanding rights of Mexican citizens?
More than 36,000 students from throughout Los Angeles County, California
skipped classes and marched through streets and on various freeways Monday,
March 27, 2006, to protest an immigration bill being debated in Congress.
"We may be illegal immigrants, but we are human," Metropolitan High School
senior Melania Preciado said as she waved a Mexican flag. "We deserve the
same rights as everyone else, not be treated like criminals." What an
ironic statement.
If we all went to Mexico...would we be treated as humans?? (Think of all
your friends who have driven down to Mexico for a weekend trip and were
either thrown in jail for looking at the Mexican police the wrong way, or
were pulled over for no apparent reason and FORCED to pay off the Mexican
police in order NOT to be thrown in jail)...
1. Try driving around as a Gringo in Mexico with no liability insurance,
and have an accident.
2. Enter MEXICO illegally - never mind immigration quotas, visas,
international law, or any of that nonsense.
3. Once there, demand that the local government provide free medical care
for you and your entire family.
4. Demand bilingual nurses and doctors.
5. Demand free bilingual local government forms, bulletins, etc.
6. Speak only English at home and in public and insist that your children
do likewise.
7. Demand classes on American culture in the Mexican school system.
8. Demand a local Mexican driver’s license. This will afford other legal
rights and will go far to legitimize your unauthorized, illegal, presence
in Mexico.
9. Insist that local Mexican law enforcement teach English to all its
officers.
Good luck!
It will not happen in Mexico nor any other country in the world...except
right here in the United States... Land of those who want to take care of
everyone, except American Citizens!
These "student" protesters, haven't the slightest clue as to what the hell
is really going on. They just want an excuse to leave school. What a
disgrace to AMERICA, our country!
If you're going to waive a Mexican flag to support your heritage, fine...
Just make sure there is an American one next to it...the land that gives to
all of its immigrants, and you. IF Mexico is SOOOOO great - Why leave it
and come to America? Think about it! Mexico isn't giving their people what
they deserve, and that's why they want to be here in America. What is
Mexico really doing for its people, other than making them desparate to
leave? This is not about people coming to America...just come legally, so
the legal system, education, medical, housing, etc., can operate more
smoothly and fair for those who are citizens, and those who long to be.

You are a disgrace. The people today were waving American flags. They dont know how it is to suffer to become a citizen? They work the ****tiest jobs.
I am Mexican also. My dad was an illegal immigrant as was my grandma. My mom is full Mexican also but she was born here. I am going to college to become a firefighter, joining the US Army as an Infantryman in the coming months, and hope to one day become a police officer. I speak 3 languages: English, Spannish, and German. Everywhere else in the world people are taught more then one language, why do we have this patriotic stick up our ***** about language?
Also, what does being messed with by the extremely corrupt Mexican government have to do with the Mexican people?

The majority did nothing to any of us accept help our economy and pay taxes with no relief using fake social security cards. I know some things like that piss you off, they piss me off too, but I realize the majority are not like that. The majority of illegal immigrants laughed at those idiots while they worked all day and made more money. If we lose THOSE kinds of people, I will definitely miss them. They are more useful than the majority of stupid white hippy potsmoking kids these days anyways. (like half of the idiots in my school)
