Preferred Viking/Excalibur Rof Settings (New Software)

Hi Everyone-

Seeing as how the new Excal/Viking software has just been released, and users of this software are required to choose settings, I thought it would be appropriate to have a "Your Preferred Setings" thread here in the forums, similar to the RaceGun thread, etc . . .

First three settings are for both Vikings and Excals, the second three (Bolt Drive/Draw/Release) are only applicable to excals. So, here goes:

Hammer Drive:

Hammer Draw:

Hammer Release:

Bolt Drive:

Bolt Draw:

Bolt Release:

That about does it. Dan (AuctionJunkie!) and TargetIndy, being that you've been field testing this software for a while, your suggested/favorite settings would be appreciated. What are a) your favorite settings and B) Fastest (reliable) settings

As very few people have the software, this thread may start out a bit slow, but it is fairly important, as every owner will want to be increasing their ROF, but not many people have a knowledge of correct settings.

Thanks all, and lets see some settings!

-Todd Logan, Paintball Northwest

P.S. We will have our preferred settings up on the thread once we upload the software onto our stock of Vikings, and come up with a decision as to our favorite settings.

My Viking is set at 27.77778
Hammer Drive is 16
Hammer Release is 20
Hammer Drive Enable is 12
LED blink is 3
Sleep/Shutdown modes are disabled.

My Excalibur is set at 16.39344
Hammer Drive is 9
Hammer Release is 1
Hammer Drive Enable is 6
Bolt Drive is 30
Bolt Release is 21
Bolt Draw Enable is 10
LED blink is 3
Sleep/Shutdown modes are disabled.

I have ran both of them faster but these are the settings that I like. I use a Halo B with both and have had no feeding problems.

Hom: On the Excal it really is necessary. I tried using a X-Board set @ 13.4BPS and I skipped a lot.

Now I have mine set at the 16.39 with a Halo B and I don't skip a shot.

The problem or reason is that the Excal will "cycle" at whatever bps it is set at. So no matter if you are pulling the trigger @ 1bps or 16bps the bolt still opens and closes @ the setting programmed. Make sense?

The viking however is an open bolt marker so it only cycles at how fast you pull the trigger. You are still limited to your hopper rate of course, but a ball will still have time to drop in if only pulling 1bps.

So whatever you have a Excal set at, your hopper better be able to feed at that setting!

Talking Just got my Viking

Played for the first time on Sunday and it didnt miss a lick. This is a very solid gun.
Gene (the local PB store owner) just got back from the world cup with the cable and we started messing with the settings. I know the gun has to be broke in before I go crazy but I couldnt resist neither could anyone else I hope we dont have too many probs. We have just sold 6 new vikings (in 1 week) and are getting ready to order more the tourney teams in town are looking at AKA a little more seriously. I have mine set to 21.??? bps and I'll let you know what happens.
Until then I'm out....JT

Talking 17.24 = success!

Just so you all know that I will give praise or criticism when it is deserved.

I want to thank Dan for posting his settings for the Excal and Viking, this took a lot of time and work, saving me/us the same accordingly. I have installed the 17.24 bps settings and found it to be fantastic, out of my first 2 halo's full I have broken 1 ball in the BARREL only (this is not a gun prblem)! This is what was missing from the Excal arsenal, but now we will be able to compete on a even playing field with the rest of the electros.

Good job Dan and AKA.

Cheers, T.

Just have a couple questions

Why are there multiple settings for the Halo B listed?

Why are the rate of fires 14.0513512512-05981 instead of just 14?

If the Viewloader is capable of 17 why set it at 14?

I have no experienced with any kind of closed bolt gun but my excal gets here monday I believe and I know someone with a datalink cable. I like the evo II better than my halo b so I guess i'll set it to your recommended Evo II settings.

The different levels are different levels of "broken in" on the individual marker.
I put the calculated numbers as they appeared in the program. Ignore everything after the decimal point if you wish.
The X-board Viewloader is rated at 10 to 12 bps. Look at the package.

The reason for the ROF being 14.01204 or whatever is because it's the true value that the gun is set for, if you can give the true info why round?

The Evo is rated to hit 17 but the testing that was done, found it to only feed reliably with the gun set at 14 any higher and you get skips and pinches. Notice the Halo A topped out at 15.

There are multiple settings for the Halo B so you can find one that works for your guns level of breakin. We've had a very well broken in Excal feeding reliably with the gun set at 20.01 or something around there. We've had the same settings on excals that weren't as well broken in and they skipped or pinched. It also seems that some Halo's feed faster than others, Odyssey has said it's due to slight difference inbetween the motors, some are stronger than others.

The Viking can use higher settings because open bolt= more bolt open time. If you set your excal at 16 bps your loader has to feed it like you were shooting that fast even if you are only shooting 3 bps, due to the fact the bolt open time is a programmed constant so it doesn't change with a difference in ROF like on an open bolt.

Dan,

Does any of the setting values you gave for the Excal affect the low pressure operation of the valve system. ->i.e. the Hammer values being such that fire rates being achieved are at the expense of proper "valve dwell"?

What´s the LPR pressure range you´ve found to be best for most well broken in Excals?

I've found about 65 to be the best "bottom" for the LPR at the higher ROF's for the Excalibur. It seems to still give the right "snap" on the valve, in my opinion. I like 72 for the Viking.

I sure hope so! I'm tired of lugging my laptop to fields. I don't know the schedule for it but I'm pushing for it!

BTW I sent some CJ pix from the 7-man to Paintball News to accompany the article. I'll let you know if they print them.

Not sure who's video this is but it was on my harddrive. Here's a nice speedy excal for you to see.

excalrof.mpeg

Right click and save as.. for best results. It's 1.3 MB so dial ups beware.

If people have other video, please post them

I've set the Vikings for 20 and the Excaliburs to 14 with pretty good success. You might be able to run the Viking up to 27.
