$20-30 isn't unusual for entry-level markers. Ask any brick-and-mortar store and they'll tell you that gun sales don't make you rich. There are better profit margins in accessories, paint and air sales, and service.

i was disappointed too when I sold my first spyder and made about $20. I had hoped to sell it for twice the amount I bought it for, but this isnt the real world. 50% of the paintball industry knows wholesale prices. That's what's causing these things to cost stores/fields so much and the retail to be so low.

which is also what is holding the sport back and keeping us store owners barley making it. espically when you get a few guns in inventory a couple of tanks and some du-dads. you cant make much off them because they cost too much to begin with not saying i could make them any cheaper but darn its hard to make it. good luck and wait till you go buy a hpa air compressor, take the vasoline.

$18.00?
Later this year you will be wishing you made $18.00 on a marker with the way the industry is heading.

But you'll sell 5 to 10 low end Tippmans for every 05 Matrix you sell. The $20 profit per tippman (times 5 of them) will be nearly equivalent to the profit of that matrix.

A word of advice - don't do gambling - You'll end up very poor.
Some of the ppl think the margins in Pb are very high. You're wrong, more than you think. The last time I looked at my wholesale price list the prices were nowhere near what the kids on PBN imagine they are.

I wish it was like that. Try making less than $100 on most high end guns. That doesnt leave a lot of profit after you pay expenses of the store/field and then offer a lifetime warranty on labor like most shops do.

You will be lucky if you make $45-85 on a high end marker. As far as that $18.00 profit you will not see much more then that my friend maybe $25.00 on a good day.

Try more like a 10-20% mark-up. Figure in the shipping and that cuts into the margin.

$300 on a matrix? No way! You are taking guesses. There is not a whole lot of money to be made in paintball. Especially on guns. More margin available on most of accessories and so forth. Is someone sells a matrix 05 for $650, it probably costs $600. Or even the dealers bought them at full wholesale before the price drop and loosing money on it.

Yeah, wholesale price drops are KILLERS. I had over $1000 worth of SP barrels last spring(when prices went down 20%). Almost all of it went for cost, and I still have a few of those items left. DYE does this annually with their apparel. Anyone with 98's is about to get hit twice. This aspect of what it "costs" to run a shop is very real.

And THAT's the problem with paintball as a business. None of the manufacturers or big distributers seem to have any interest in growing the sport or supporting a healthy retail market.
They want the whole pie to themselves.
