For all you 'guitar' ppl that maybe able to help.

Recently, I've been looking in getting either a nice combo amp or a half-stack. I play anything from clam classical finger picking styles to weezer to Zao, Trust Company, Creed, Deftones, Tool. So I'm looking for something that can put out good clean tones to heavier tones as well. Something that is loud enough to do small gigs and practice would be nice too. I'd like a half-stack, but I'm not sure my budget will allow it. I'm looking to spend a $1000, but the lower the better. Also, it doesn't really matter if the amp has awesome dis. I have a pretty nice dis pedal (Tri-metal), but if the amps dis is better then that then great!

Currently I play through a Crate Combo 2x12 G120 XL with a Peavey T-60. I plan on getting another guitar, thinking a Gibsion SG, or Studio. (just for the useless info)

Thanks in advance for anyone can help!

I bought a Marshall G215R small amp for 150 bucks just recently.. I don't think it has the sack to belt out at a gig, but it's definitely loud enough to play with even the hardest playing drummer. It has a nice gain for chunky distortion and a nice clean tone (reverb as well)

If I were you, I'd snag a Paul Reed Smith with that extra cash you have set aside for the new guitar... you could prolly find something pretty nice used.. (ebay, whatever) or go with a nice marshall tube head/amp and a cheap speaker assembly...

that's pretty much my dream set up

nice, relatively affordable PRS:

Marshall is the best in amps, unless you have access to mesa boogie. I reccomend a half stack from marshall, you can probably get a cheap used ones, or musicians friends has a few lower priced ones

Yeah, I have the marshall avt100, tube preamp, it's good for what I use it for. They make halfstack versions, and 2x12 combos too. It's not the full tube purist sound, but it's way better than the all solidstate stuff. I'd reccomend them. I agree with Kotowa too, if you could get a Mesa, they're insane, just mega expensive...

Check Ebay, they have Dual Rectifiers and stuff like that

Also, if you're gonna decide to play real heavy, VHT has the pitbull heads, but those are also high prices.

You'd have to get a pretty big combo unit to get enough power out of it for a small gig. I'd look into getting speakers and a head unit...
