FPO or BYOP indoor

Hi, im wondering what would be more effective, BYOP or FPO. I realize that FPO brings in more proffit off each customer, but would BYOP bring in more customers? Or would another option be better, like FPO with rentals, and a small extra charge for BYOP with own gear? And this is for an indoor field.
Thanks, Joe

FPO with rentals and sell paint seems to work good... most people shouldnt have a problem with that...

BYOP = 15$-20$ enty
FPO - Include a extra 10$ with the price of paint. so its like a package deal.

So, how does the field make any money?

To make money, the field needs to make money off every player. If they can't make profit on paint sales, the field fee has to be higher.

One way or another, if you bring your own paint or buy from the field, you'll have to pay...

I would start FPO and then switch if that does not work.

If you go FPO try to carry a selection. That way if people want to shoot a nicer grade of paint they can.

Find a paint brand that cleans easily. I have found that some brands of paint do not wash off air ball bunkers very well....(wal-mart stuff)

I often attend the Monster Game at Hell Surivors. They use to be a BYOP field then they switched. With the switch there was a loss of about 1000 players.

To me it doesn't make a difference. Insurance is a lot of the reason people make a decision one way or the other.

If you FPO - Have a good selection - for the poor to the rich.
If you BYOP - Have a fee or $10-$15 per player.
Personally I'd do both as an option.

In my own opinion as a player, I have no issue using a fields paint so long as they are fair with the prices and give me a selection. Our local indoor whenever I ask if anyone wants to head up with me, they always say "Oh thats the place that costs $80 to play at" thats not good because I have about 10 friends who just cant afford to play due to the cost.

yea make it fpo, just dont charge 100 bucks for a case of 2000, i play at an outdoor field a lot and they charge 50 bucks for a case of good paint and im fine with that, i also play at another field tht charges 100 but thats just a rip off and i have to have my sponsors buy paint for me

That's my issue as well. I play at a field in PA, when I go home to visit my parents. I really don't mind it being an FPO field because the owners stock quality paints, have a selection and aren't outrageous with their pricing. It's a few dollars more than I could get elsewhere but I'll happily buy from them because they're one of the few FPO places that has a good selection. (And a nice range of paints...from $45-65ish). That's reasonable. Paying $80, like we did at EMR for that Severe Hurricane crap that broke in my gun, loader and everywhere but on a person was a bit more unreasonable. I spent as much time cleaning my equipment after playing than I actually spent playing. Not what I like to see in a FPO place.

Skyline paintball is another great field here in VA that has it down. Buy paint from them or pay extra to have it be BYOP. Their selection is quality and their prices are reasonable. I wish more fields would take a lesson from them. I realize fields need to turn a profit but there's a line between gouging and profit that some fields don't skirt, they dive across it with glee.

field entry- $15
Field paint-$65 per case
BYOP fee- $10

Its the best way to go. They get tons of people there cuz of prices. we have speedball and woodsball.

byop without a decent extra charge= you wont be able to afford to keep your doors open.....Start pricing rent on any type of building large enough to open an indoor field business in.

I would set up your field to where it's field paint only on 3 weekends out of the month and then an extra $10 or so on the weekend that it's BYOP per month.

10 for field fee free air
10 for BYOP
50-60 for quality paint(not the best but decent, i know how much you guys can get your paint for and i hate the fact that ive seen places mark it up 250-300%)

o and having a nice, clean field with good and friendly people helps alot too

Well if you ask any player he would want byop of course. Than he might expect free air hmm.

How many sq feet and how much a foot are you paying?
Is the location someplace ez to get to?
Is it someplace you dont mind leaveing a car parked at night?
How much will it cost to heat a building this size and cool it?
Lights whould be nice along with staff and maintance.
Be nice to make some mony to go home with to pay your own bills too.
15/ 20 admissions + surcharge for byop? do some math on how many heads need to walk in and see if you can stay open.

You can always have one day a week that is BYOP with a $5 extra charge. This would help attract people, who will come on FPO days when it's more convenient than the BYOP day.

My local field started doing this about a year ago. The place is so insanely popular now.

what our field does, is BYOP is free when using your own marker, with rentals your only allowed to use Field Paint, and its $15 for 500 paintballs. Its pretty effective.
