Destin, FL and Gulf Shores, AL
Took some shots from the Destin Jetties(eastside) yesterday. Some of them came out decent enough. The jetty itself is much much shorter than before last hurricane season, sand has washed in nearly to the point. Fun dive spot, I hope the sands haven't affected the bottom too much.
...and because I know how you guys can't get enough of birds.
Here's a shot I PP'd using the link Grubby posted for using the channel mixer for B&Ws. Its not the greatest, but I'm happy with the results.

I went to Gulf Shores this morning and managed a few good shots of Blue Herons. Here's the best shot of the bunch.
Probably gonna make a condensed photo thread later and only include the pictures I really enjoy. I'll create seperate threads which will include best pics from each day, since that seems to be the Small Talk photog way.

You have to have the people be back lit then expose for the sky.

1st isn't underexposed, but it could almost definately benefit from a bit lower contrast to bring some detail out of the shadows of the jetties. The beach is exposed fine though.

I'd like to know how much dodging and burning you did with that one, with the silouetting the sky needs more highlighting but the sand and people look great.

I'm at work right now leaving for New Orleans until Wed night. I'll post an original as well as my latest version after some more workflow which does include more work over the sky and some cropping of the foreground. I'll also post a 100% crop of the surfers which looks interesting and prompts me to want to make a large print from this image.
The version posted still has about an hour worth of dodging and burning in the foreground and around the surfers and jetty sillouettes. There was some work done on the sky already, but a bit more in the version I have at my place.
This picture seems to be begging me to come back and rework it more and more. It gets grittier every time and I get happier.

I love the beach/surfers one. I can see me having a huge poster of that in my room or something.

As promised...
Very blah! Thought of B&W before even depressing the shutter.
80% crop(from the img I'm working over) of the surfers showing the detail in the highlights that I think will greatly make a large print very interesting to study.

A couple of my buds want to make posters from it. Its the first pic I've taken that I would even consider printing, I may end up throwing it on the wall too.
