Canon Powershot A620

I've been searching around for a good and reliable digital camera as I've needed one for quite some time. Granted I don't know much about cameras, but I'd like something with a high resolution and something to keep me going once I do end up learning a bit about photography. Someone steered me in the direction of the A620. One thing that grabbed my attention was the resolution and price. I was wondering what ST's photography elite thought of it.

I haven't used that specific model, but I've been impressed with other Aseries Canon digital PnSs. Nice picture quality and the higher-end PnSs have manual modes for you to grow into(I would think that the A620 has them).

The A610 in my mind is clearly the better bargain. Considering I was able to get these pictures on this page with the A75 and that only has 3mp, trust me you will be fine with the 5mp A610. http://photography-on-the.net/forum/...=123208&page=2 (Scroll down there are 4 of them)

Really the only major things that an A620 has over the A610 are the 2.1 extra mp and the remote option, and unless your really anal about the colors I guess that could be a "perk" too. Oh did I mention you'll be spending about $75-100 less too, so with that extra money you could pick up some things that'll help you along the way, such as a small tripod, cleaning kit, camera case and a nice sized SD card.

Just making you aware of your options.

Actually I went ahead and bid on an a620 on ebay for $286 and won it. After looking further into it, the only real downside to the camera is it doesn't support Raw imaging, which isn't a big deal for me, as I haven't ever experienced the quality difference between that and anything else.
