since the mass of the car exerts some pressure of the suspension assembly, wouldn't a negative camber be balanced by the weight? basically, wouldn't a 'zero' camber essentially cause inward bending?

Well most cars are different, but positive camber is inward, normal is straight, and negative is outward. Weight distribution, suspension, and weight are all factors on what a cars camber will be.
