ive got a challenge for anyone on here who thinks they're good at drawing. Okay, Okay, i actually need someone to draw something on SW and then post it. then if possible, send it to me. now wait! not for me to use, but i want to rollback throught the stages of the drawing and see how it was done, cuz for the life of me i cant figure ot how to approach it.

will someone PLEASE draw me a pmr body?!? i can get the overall shape, but cant put the milling in it. is anyone capable???.......BMX?

if you woldnt feel comfortable sending a sldprt file to me, then it might help to post pictures through the stages, but i would really appriciate it if someone could send it to me.

Anyone?

I suppose the PMR body is *possible* to do in solidworks using the surfacing tools, but your better off using something more specific to modeling rather than engineering. Studiotools and Rhino are examples of software. Studiotools actually has a free student version for download I believe.

in solidworks using surfaces you could do it, a little time consuming but you could do it
outline each cut in one profile representing the edge, and then make a sketch of guide curves to get the right depth

yeah, i knew it would be done with surfaces. but it is really hard. SW has no draft feature for thier swept cuts. so it all has to be done with profiles. and the cuts arent in line, they curve. its just really hard and the way im trying isnt working, but i wanted to know if anyone had tried aswell.

Take drafting in high school. Then aquire a good 3D CAD program and start doing the tutorials. From there you should be able to do design work.

well if you know it can be done with surfaces then use them, its still part of solid works and you don't have to use profiles, because that gets hard to get an accurate shape
If you simply make a general outline of the gun, then make surfaces and cut above it you can do the milling. Lets say you want to make a tear drop impression, you draw the outline of the tear drop in 2d on the surface of the body, then make another 3d sketch that are just a series of splines cutting the tear drop shape into what will look like ribs on a ship, and you can adjust the curves to these, use a filled surface with the first sketch and select the second as a guide curve
here is an example i did real quick

What program do most of you all use? I want a good program but not willing to pay 8000+ bucks, going to get it with Bit torrent. Let me know a name of a good program. Thanks.

most of us use solidworks, but if you can be considered a student, or otherwise produce "evidence" that you are you can get the student edition of solidworks for 80 bucks and it will give you the full version with all the add-ons well worth it imo

This is not a thread for pirating software. Also the good majority of us use Solidworks, but AutoDesk Inventor, Rhino 3D and a few others are good software to use.

You could also try Alibre - It's free.

If I see more of this torrent/limewire bs I'm going have to report the thread. This isn't the place for it. Grow up. I really don't want to see this thread closed. But if that's what this thread is going to turn into... Student editions are not expensive. Get one. If you cant afford a student copy I doubt you can afford a computer that can even handle the newer software. Secondly. You have to ask someone what they use? You cant even do 5 minutes of researching? I mean. If something that simple is difficult. You wont be able to do anything in these programs.

Anyway. I've been taking a break from the bolt action. I'll probably start back up in a day or so. Been really busy lately. I haven't had any time for modeling lately. I'm trying to learn FloWorks.

Spitle - Congrats on the product and it being successful

Thanks pbfanatic06. It's the first step in getting the capital to produce the marker we have designed.

No problem man. Looking forward to seeing this marker. Is it going to be in its own class like completly new? Or is it based off current markers operations?

It's basically a Bushmaster, but far more advanced. More consistent, efficient, faster, lighter, lower profile, mechanical anti-chop etc...

The list is long...

Ok, first off not trying to get this thread closed. Second, the point I was trying to make was that don't refrain from telling me a better peogram because it cost 8000+ bucks. I am a staff sargeant in the U.S. Army and even being a SSG I don't make crap. Not going to scholl because I don't have the time. Regardless of what you might think, Infantry solders don't have the time as some no combat arms might have. We don't work 9-5, were 24/7. So chill out. I want to get the program for a project that would cost me 800+ bucks to have the machine shop to do. If I do all the work than I'm just paying for milling. I don't have a four axis CNC mill. So I'm trying to get, learn, work the design myself. Thats it, and last I checked bit-torentts wasn't pirating, congress hasn't passed any bills or laws making it illegal. And limwire is peer 2 peer, same as me letting a friend barrow a DVD for the night. I'm not copying and selling it, it's for me. Not trying to get off topic just trying to get some info on something I don't know anything about, auto cad. And for all the guys that did give me some help, Thank you.

The issue is, the license for these programs doesn't allow you to install it on any additional computers except for the ones you pay for. Regardless of your living situation, it's still illegal to copy any program with a license like that.

You have a very skewed version of what software piracy actually is. Who cares what the method of getting the digital information is, the fact that you are using software that is sold on a license by license basis without paying for said license makes it pirated. You could sit there with a pen and lots of paper, copy the entire source code bit for bit, recreate it, and it is still piracy. Doesn't matter if it's for personal use or if you make no money from it. The only difference that makes is if you are found out, you are not as likely to get in as much trouble if it was for personal farting around use (from the company that makes it that is). Lots of software is given out like candy and can be legitimately freely downloaded or otherwise obtained from the company, and is either crippleware or a time trial. It's that magic license that removes the limitations that costs $8,000.

Now don't get me wrong, I'm not saying you are a terrible person or anything for doing it, most of us here have probably used or currently use pirated software for whatever reason. I personally taught myself how to do some basic computer modelling with a pirated copy of 3D Studio Max that I downloaded about 8-10 years ago. But make no mistake, it is piracy, method of obtainment means nothing.

to help try and wrestle this thread back on topic, how would you go about adding paintballs in an assembly? I want to fill hoppers/pods for some good scenery and realism

I just revolve a hemisphere, with diameter 0.689 (or whatever) and place them where needed.
