i mailed my luxe maxflo to DLX to get repaired. marked it as repair, but insured it for $100
a couple weeks later i get a letter from Fedex ground saying i owe them $51.00
(i am from canada)
is that the fault of DLX for the $51.00 charge to me?

You should be able to get an invoice from DLX to say that it was a warranty repair, and they will reverse the charges.
I had the same thing happen when I got some new hybrid shells.

Call FedEx and let them know what happened. If there is any value declared on the invoice the brokerage amount is based on that. FedEx will ask that you have DLX send them an invoice stating the item was a warranty repair and there were no costs involved other than the shipping amount. Once they have that the brokerage and other charges(Except for Shipping) should be reversed.

You should just be able to fax the invoice into FedEx if you talk to someone there and get a reference number.

I have to agree that you can put some pretty crazy things on a shipment like "gun" and it just sails through the system. At least for me, I'd like it done correctly just to avoid a hassle with customs as you know how paranoid a lot of people get when they see or hear the word "Gun".

I just baught a marker from the states and it was sent back to the sender, they said it wasn't allowed accross the border. Next time it's shipped we'll be taking your advise.

Yeah, That sucks Have the sender resend the marker with the correct info on the shipment. If CBSA doesn't see that info on the customs forms or package they think you're trying to smuggle an illegal weapon into the country. Every customs officer is a bit different and because it's a judgement call on their part the best way to avoid a hassle is to make sure every bit of pertinent info is on the shipment.

But 1st ALWAYS try to buy from canadian sellers!!
EVERYTHING new or used is subject to tax.
Customs can and will check ANY env. box or container for any reason.
Customs can damage your item when looking at it so don't go blaming the seller right off. I had 2 subs shipped face to face, held together by quick ties. Customs cut the ties to look between the subs and then just put the subs back in box W/O ties!!!......you can guess the rest.
If the item is valued at $15usd or less there will be no tax/broker fee, doesn't matter who you use as courier.
If an item is valued under $50usd and marked as gift there will be no customs...not sure about broker fee
Customs charges are whatever ur province charge. 15%in NS
If an item is valued at over $50 and is marked "repaired/replaced under warranty" there will be no customs/broker fees
USPS broker fee is a fixed $5 thats y I always use them (great service/price but a bit slow)
Other couriers are the devil when broker fees come into play. I had a 30lb box valued at $40 and ups charged me $35 for broker fee. I don't know how they figure out broker fee costs! ups will get you good!
When insuring an item this will cover the item if it is destroyed/stolen. But if you get the item and its broken inside the package it is NOT covered
shipping by fed x/ ups /purolator is always faster/more expensive than usps
shipping usps air is only a few $ more than ground see here http://pe.usps.gov/text/Imm/immicl/immiclcd_003.html
ALWAYS be nice to the seller so that he/she would be happy to ship to canada for the next guy/gurl
DO NOT panic if the parcel hasn't arrived yet! Relax, it'll be there soon, customs prob had a peek inside and delayed it a bit.
if you find this info informative or if it helps you let me know, and give a up once in a while.
I think this will help alot of people, maybe sticky?

The value is $20 canadian, they don't tax, and marked as a gift gives you a $60 canadian exemption of taxes.

Priority Mail International(PMI) gives you a tracking number and takes about 6to 10 days to be delivered. First Class Mail international has no tracking number and takes anywhere from 10 to 14 days to be delivered depending how far away from the source you are. PMI also costs about 50% more depending on the package size. I've had FCM take 15 days from CA and I live in Vancouver.

When shipping to canada or the states, and marking it as a gift. Trick is to put in a birthday card or some sort of hallmark card into the box and mark is as a gift! The customs will have a peek inside, and see the gift card and go, oh 400$ gift, ok, and keep it moving without taxes hitting it.
