So yeah..I guess I'm playing football now..

Let's get this straight right away, I'm a golfer. I played golf this year untill it was over. Now the football coach wanted me to play football and I'm like what the hell, why not. So I joined yesterday and he puts me at linebacker. My first game is on monday so does anyone have any tips for a linebacker?

Just don't stop when you hit people, you'll get hurt. Run through them and you'll be fine.

Well I didn't really switch, golf is over. I might switch though, depending how football goes.

use the gaurds as keys to figure out where the play is going.

linebacker is one of the hardest positions on the defensive side of the ball. you have to be able to read the play and react very quickly.

it would help to know what style defense you are running, and whether you are an outside linebacker or inside?

I play Left outside. I don't really know the defense we run but we do 1 of three things
All out blitz
Strong side blitz weak side play straight
or straight

If you don't play good, at least show the coach you're aggresive. If the linemen pull, then the play is going the direction that they're running. Stay low; low man wins. Keep the lineman off of you, and dont get blocked. Try to react quick and meet the fullback at the line of scrimage.

I start line backer for the best team in DE. So just watch the back field and when you see the ball carrier go to a hole shuffle to the hole then exsplode up and fill it. Defense is mostely instinct but it takes alot of practice.

I play DT. Just fill the hole when you see it open up. It's not all that hard to read the play. Keep your feet moving on first impact when you hit someone, it helps, a lot. Always figure out where the ball is. Our linebackers always take one read step up then if they're passing they go back in zone 5 yards. Not all too complicated.
