Nppl: Update If You Are Playing Read This
Goggle Safety
The NPPL is concerned that players are not following rule 5.01 Face Mask / Goggles. The rule states;
Players, officials and any other individuals present in a goggle-safe area (e.g. the playing field and chrono-station) must wear Goggles with full-face protection manufactured for the use in paintball games in its original form. Goggles must meet or exceed ASTM standards for eye protection and lenses must be in good repair. Goggles must have adequate ear protection. See ASTM Standard F1776
The NPPL officials will be checking all goggle systems in San Diego to make sure all goggles meet the above standard. Please be advised that if your goggle has been modified from its original manufactures form the goggle will not be allowed on the field. Thus the player will have to get a new pair or pair that meets the standard in order to play.
It is also recommended that lenses be replaced after a taking a direct hit. Please make sure your lenses are on good condition and if they need to be replaced please do so.

You could probably do that, since you would exceed the safety standards. But if it meant modding the profiler to do so, you'd probably get hassled for it.
Wonder if modded masks will be allowed onto the field at all?

Nope.. If they see it has been modified, it is then up to the ref to decide if can go on the field, and they said in Denver that they are going to be a lot stricter in SD. But you may be able to get away with some small stuff

You can cut the top part of the ear piece, its the face part they are worried about, and ears, Just make sure ur ears are covered for the most part and that your mask isnt cut to show ur chin

Soft ears on profilers is not allowed (it's altered), unless profilers start coming stock with soft ears before the event.
They were allowing the tops of the flex ears (flush with the strap) to be cut off previously, but they may or may not allow it on the field this time around since everyone has now been warned.
If you want to push the rules, you can always bring your modified masks, but don't complain if they don't let you on the field. Bring money to buy a new mask just in case. Oh and at the Denver event. all of the vendors sold out of masks, so you run the risk of not being able to pick one up there if you do push the rules.
You always have the option of pushing the rules, but the refs also have the option of enforcing the rules. So now that everyone has been notified, you can't complain.

ok this is something i dont get about proflex's rule,
if they arnt alowing the top of the ears cut, wats the difference if your head gets hit right on top of ur ears, or the exact top of your head which isnt required to be covered at all,
the extra 1/8inch thick of foam and like 3/4inch hight, isnt goin to do a dam thing above your ears since its your head, and your head doesnt have to be covered by anything,
i dont understand whats the big deal???

Well written rules shouldn't have any grey area. If the rule said "you can modify your mask as long as it's still safe" then everyone would be arguing about what "safe" is before every game. the way the rule is written, it's black & white and easy to tell if the rule is violated.
It's not that much different from the rule about ripped clothing. Most refs won't bag on you if a knee seam is split an inch, but a six inch rip is another story.
Believe it or not, the refs aren't out to shaft anyone just for the fun of it. But if the refs sees something (like soft ears on your profilers) it's his job to enforce it.

yes. this year we are takeing it very very strict. were not letting anyone with major mask mods on the field. cutting the top of the soft ears are allowed as far as im concernd. NO LEGACY PROTOS or Soft ear Profilers will be allowed on the field. if they are its the chrono refs/chrono workers fault.
have fun
