What Sells Best?!

Ok, my local outdoor/gun store has a pretty decent paintball selection to start off with. He has more Tippmanns you can shake a stick at, a Proto Matrix, a Superstock/Prostock and some other low-end electro's and mechanicals. He has alot of JT jerseys/pants, alot of Spyder jerseys, a decent selection of C5 stuff and some Dye Invisions and Proto Switch masks.

But what he is wanting to know is what do other stores sell the most of? He doesnt realy know what all to order and would like some advice. He is also wanting to setup some fields behind is local store and was wondering where he could get some cheap field bunkers.

Thanks-CueBall

If you are going to carry anything from DYE, the Proto Switch EL's are fantastic.
Gun upgrades- adjustable feednecks, Barrels for the Tippmanns are a must.
Get rid of the Autocockers though.

Lots of Upgrades
Paint for all different price ranges
Barrels
Various E-Hoppers
Good Staff that knows lots about all differnet types of markers
It would be cool if you filled co2 and N2 and sold N2 tanks as well

Try and become the number one dealer of your area in some sort of gun, tippmanns would be nice cause lots of people buy tippmanns to start, so you could have lots of upgrades for them, barrels, e-bolts, e-grips, response trigge etc. then you could advertise the number one Tippmann (or any other brand) Dealer In The Area!

Upgrades..well which popular teams are from the area ? The pop-culture thing is to have a lot of the stuff of a local pro team, I am near Chicago, so Shocktech and Dye are HUGE here. Also what is his target market? You said "more tippmanns than you can shake a stick at".. right now i have 31 custom tippmanns on my wall, along with another 75 guns, we target all ranges of the player. What you listed shows his market is the rec/scenarion player. So he needs to get in contact with his NPS rep and snag some BT accessories for his recballing customers.

What sells best?

Whatever it is that you are out of.

It is very hard ot judge, so you really need to have a variety. You never know.

I had 4 Eggys in my store for 3 months and sold not one. Then, in 2 weeks I sold 7.

My field is strictly speedball. One of my best retail customers is a Scenario guy who has never played at my field. I carry scenario stuff just for him.

My rule of thumb:

If can you sell 1 in a week, carry 3. If you can sell 3 in two weeks, carry 5.

If it doesn't sell in 30/90 days, dump it.

What sells well? Items you understand and can explain to the customer. Items you can quickly support.

But most important -- you need a sales person. Not a high pressure car dealer type, just someone in tune with a customer's needs and budget. If I sense a customer is excited, I always remind / "upsell" a T-shirt or hat. Never pressure them, just offer additional product.

What else sells? Value added items. Sell thread protectors with tanks. Sell swabs with barrels. Sell batteries with hoppers. Sell lens cleaner with goggles. Most customers forget these items and most will thank you next time they're in.

Every market is different. My stores are 15 minutes from each other. They're complete opposites! But once you know you customer base, you can roll profits into what your market wants.

Oh man, a ton. Major rebuild kits for markers sit forever. Orange bolts haven't sold well. Any HaloB/ReloaderB upgrade board sits until its out of style. XL shirts sit forever (we're currently selling 4 XL-XXXL shirts for $24).

The worst items for us tend to be the Invision and Proto "parts." They make the ears, visors, foam portions, and straps, and I think we sell maybe 1 piece a MONTH. Terrible margins, too.

The worst offenders are any barrels over $100 that are tournament oriented. You can NEVER have the right bore size, threading, and color in stock. Its Murphy's Law, haha.

How about you?

the rule of thumb is
everyone starts with either a tippmann, or a spyder (and if you get a BE gun you upgrade to a tippmann or a spyder)
so find out who sells tippmann stuff and buy spyder stuff
or find out who sells spyder stuff and buy tippmann stuff
unfourtunatly for us all, most players order stuff from the internet
its the cold hard facts of life, and it has a lot to do with the sports technology, I mean, you'd be hard pressed to find a player who doesn't know his gun inside and out. Most people could be qualified as airsmiths if they wanted to.
So if you deal in only high end stuff, you won't get much buisness
however
make sure that you go through and explain EVERYTHING to the person your selling a spyder or tippmann to, I mean, strip the thing down (valve and all) and show him how it works.
and make sure that you offer a lifetime warrenty on it.
I bought my first gun from the local field
and guess what? I bought my second and third gun from there and I have worked there for years now.

buy all highend stuff from guns to clothing the sport will go no where unless u give the customers a choice instead of all woodsball/rec stuff

you obviously didn't read my post above
people don't buy from proshops
know why? because believe it or not, it costs less online. And get this, the sport goes nowhere if the industry isn't there, and unless you support the local shop, the industry won't go anywhere. Thats the problem. I mean, the only reason people shop locally is because most places have a lifetime warrenty on it.
what local shops actually sell used guns cheap, I mean, people will go to pbnation to trade rather then sell their gun for less then they paid and then save more to get another gun.
and the customers will ask if they want high end stuff.

You know nothing of the industry. If that is your target market, you stock those particular items

Well, this store does not have a field (yet hopefully) which is hurting his sales. If he could just open one up then it would help him tremendously. He is willing to put forth the money for it all but the city wont let him do it. Were thinking about starting some kind of petition and hope it will do something.

But thanks for all the replies guys, it helped alot.

Thanks-CueBall

I understand that is makes some people feel like bigger people by insulting others, but this is not the place for it... Please post in other areas if you are going to insult others..
