Official Macdev GCI bottle recall.

GCI bottles have been used for a lot of different brand air systems including MacDev systems in the period between August 2004 and March 2005. The DOT exemption on those bottles has now been revoked - this means that they cannot be used. The company GCI are now responsible for causing big problems for all customers with their bottles.

Here is what MacDev are doing about the GCI problem, any questions would be best to be posted in this thread.

to Macdev for taking a step at not "leaving people hanging".
I don't own any Macdev products, but I have a whole new respect for them.
Good job.

So it is going to cost $40 to $60 more to get tanks fixed and no timeframe to base when we'll get tanks back.

Does this fee at least include shipping?

^^ It's possible that Crossfire tanks are not effected by this.
Maybe Crossfire didn't get an order of these tanks when they were being made.

I'm sending mine off tommorow. I'm out $40 for the tank, $12.50 to ship back to Canada, and about another $40 CAD to ship it down. All together about $100 CAD but I feel confident and comforted by Mac Dev stepping up and taking care of their consumers.

ummm... actually macdev should be replacing the bottles... that's what real companies do when they sell their customers a defective, or in this case dangerous, product. it's called a recall. flopping half of the expense of their mistake onto the customer is unacceptable. i would pay for shipping and labor, but $60 is a ****ing joke. It's like their charging us for renting a bottle that could have ****ing killed us. i am starting an anti macdev campaign unless this gets resolved in a slightly more cost effective means for the customer...
two days and counting, james... oh, and thanks for ****ing up my weekend.
advice: if a deal seems to good to be true, it probably is.

^^^No, if your DOT number matches up to the number that is being recalled then you have reason to worry. Otherwise your DOT number is clear I'm assuming. I read the article thing in the other thread and checked my crossfire and I dont have the same DOT as mentioned so I think we should be ok. Someone correct me if I'm wrong...I just sure as hell hope I'm not because I dont have money for a new ****ing tank...

no other company has offered anything. Atleast macdev has offered this unlike any other company. And you're getting a brand new bottle with a new hydro.

great. let's just sit back and let this become the standard for paintball customer service in general. i love being a complacent, mindless consumer. i ****ing love shelling out my hard earned dollars for stuff and then having to may more money just to ensure that stuff doesn't kill me. ****, man, i'm thinking we could single handedly take down the practice of companies offering warantees, while we're at it.

Seems to me that some ppl want to put the whole blame on MacDev, Crossfire & Archon. What those people need to realize is, that all those companies are in a very similar situation. They bought a product, that they believed to be up to the standard and now are in deep trouble. They can have a sing-a-along by the fire of the magazine they're holding the tanks in and there is big damage to the brand because of this. It's not like they can recall all those tanks, rewrap them and sell again.

I can understand that some of you feel cheated, but you have to remember that Macdev, Crossfire or Archon have been cheated too. Do you really think it's reasonable to give them the blame?

This problem does not affect me directly. But I'm currently in the market for a tank and was thinking about buying one online from the U.S. Now, with all the worldwide CF shortage and the Tankgate, probably the prices will rise and I think it may be more reasonable for me to get the Stako tank. Although it's a bit expensive for me it has it's advantages - it's light, has a millennium-accepted certificate and is made in Poland (that's where I live).

boohoo... they made a ****ing profit. it's not like they gave us the tanks for christ's sake. liability was passed onto them when they resold the product. it sucks for them, and i do feel sorry for them. hell, i had a very nice conversation with the US reps the other day, but this is not a fair way to handle it. whether they drop half of the cost on customers or not, it is going to be a huge hit for their company(unless they had the insurance they should have had in the first place). they should at least take care of their customers so that some of them come back once they do recover...
damned prison colonies...

well, if you buy a tank off of pbnation or any site for now on. make sure you can get a picture of the DOT number and hyrdo date now. espically with the amount of tanks for sale here everyday.

For rec play we use the surrender rule. Most players point their gun and shout "Bang". One time as a young player was the last on his team and his opponents were closing in, he jumped up, threw down his gun and ran off the field screaming "Bang me! Bang me! Just please don't hurt me!"
