What is Crossfire going to do about this? If your tanks fall under this exemption will they be replaced?

I will not know until tomorrow on our tanks. Our tanks I believe are all Carelton Tanks. As for Crossfire, it is technically not their fault. i may be up to the tank manufacturer to replace them. If you have one, Contact the vendor first, then go after Global. Crossife uses Carelton as well. So I have no idea how many tanks that are possibly bad that are out there.

This affects Crossfire only? Is this why they have been out of stock for so long and why didn't they come forward on their own?

I did not say that it only affects them. I do not know who else buys from that company. All I know is that all the ones that would not be filled at a tourney in Norcal were all crossfires. There were probably a bunch of crossfires out there at the tourney and only a few had the numbers on them. As for being out of tanks, I know there was a shortage of carbon fiber in the entire industry.

What size/pressure rating are these tanks?
Also, is it all tanks manufactuered under this exemption or is there a range of dates? (I'm at work and didn't read the warning very closely)

I believe that ACI uses this manufacturer.

But which tanks? Does that exemption apply to 3000psi tanks or 4500psi tanks? Different capacity will be manufactured under different DOT exemptions.

I believe it varies -- ive seen 45/4500 Ignition ... 68/4500 CF - you need to look at the label on the tanks to be certain

Thanks...I think it can be the same DOT exemption for different size tanks (45ci vs 68ci, etc.), but different pressure capacity (3000psi vs 4500psi) will have different DOT exemptions.

I was hoping this one was for 3000psi tanks...all mine are 4500s (hopefully mine are all Carleton or Luxfer!)

The DOT notice says nothing about any failures, only that the tanks did not meet the manufacturing requirements to get the exemption. Probably the 5 years between hydro exemption.

"DOT recommends that any person possessing a cylinder manufactured by Global Composites International, Inc. (GCI) and marked with exemption number DOT-E 12695 take the cylinder to a qualified refilling station and have
the pressure relieved from the cylinder."

This only applies to Global Composite cylinders made with Carbon Fiber with Spec E-12695. It doesn't appear to have any manufacturing dates, so it applies to all that meet the criteria.

Hope this answers a little more. And if you own a MacDev, you're pretty taken care of.

No matter who sold them, there will have to be a recall. Just check your tanks and if you have one don't use it and call whoever supplied it.
