Break Beam eyes for E2
Hey guys, I've been toying around with the idea of developing break beam eyes for the E2 frames. Its kinda silly how they included the firmware for BBE, but didn't ever come out with the eye harness for them, in my eyes. I want to know how much interest there would be in BBE for the E2. I've got the parts picked out, I just need to get them in stock and then I will be playing around with it and see if I can get it to work. Then I might need a donor gun to install the eyes in, but thats a little ways off. Anyways, take care.

i think its safe to say that there would be more than a little interest. I would consider buying...

Yeah, thats what I've been seeing. This is the first time I've looked at the electrococker forum in some time. It was just today that I was at a shop and was looking for some new things to toy with. The owner recommended figuring out BBE for the E2 and I decided to look into it. Would it be safe to say that most people would like a nice CNC machined install instead of taking a hand drill to their 'cockers? I was thinking of doing a BBE install on the E2 equipped cockers as well, but again, thats a little ways off. Right now I'm focusing on getting the parts in and making it happen.

there would possibly be some demand for install, but the problems i see with that are the people who would likely install break beams either have a predrilled body (i.e. one already drilled for race bbe), or are capable of drilling themselves. I know I for one am interested in the bbe, but am capable of operating the equipment necessary to do a precision install.

I want someone to put LED's in it and call it angel eyes. Thats all the angel eyes are on angels. LED's, then WDP adds a LCD screen and $400 to the msrp and call it a G7.

hm
Uhh are you asking if there are any interests for break beam eyes? Lets just say you won't be able to keep up to the demands. You're pre-order list will probably be just as long or longer than the pbx's mq valve list.

Hmm... I better step this little project up to number one priority then. I'll have parts and start checking out a frame at the shop by the end of the week.

...or you may just want to look into using the EGO eye harness/assembly?

FallNAngel was going to do some testing with ego eyes. Many of us are assuming that ego eyes would work. although that would not affect your install jobs much. also perhaps you could test the ego eyes against your own and see if there is a difference in performance or installation.

im a BIG in. plus. find a way to use the already drilled one eye. i know my body can pass the other eye thru the middle of the body. maybe the other side could be a detent eye combo?

The problem with using the existing eye hole on the right side of the body would be that the hole is 4.1mm (correct?) and the eyes I had planned on using are 3mm. So I would need to either make a little spacer to hold the eye in place or figure something else. Plus that isn't the ideal height for a break beam eye. You want them placed much lower in the breech than the centerline. It would be easy enough (for me at least) to write a program for the CNC mill to drill both sides of the breech in the absolute correct spots instead of sufficing with the centerline hole. I could even go as far as to make a little rubber or plastic "cap" (like a tophat shape) that pops into place in the existing eye hole and is held in by the detent. That way all the holes in the breech are plugged with something.
On the other side of the breech, I would have to figure something out with the eye cover. I could do like I do with the Angels I put ACE in, and just set the eyes to the rear of the centerline like 60-thou or so. That would allow me to use another E-blade eye cover and mirror the other side more or less. Then I would just have to mirror the milling for the cover on the other side of the frame.
How much are Ego eye harnesses?

The parts are shipping today, so I should have them by the end of week easily to try out and figure upon something. I should be getting close here in the next couple of days. Has anyone got an Ego eye harness to work correctly, or do they just "look" similar?

I made a working prototype of the harness today and tested it on a E2 at the local shop here. It works flawless. I do need to take some more readings on the board to make sure that I am using the optimal eyes for it, but so far it looks good. I will have some more information on this later on in the week when I get my correct parts in.

As far as the offset eye holes are concerned, there is a software setting to correct for that, and I for one would like to keep from drilling two holes in the body versus one.
the ego eyes may or may not work, because they do not go into any holes on the body, they are relatively flat. getting them to mount to the body is the problem there.
I too have been thinking about doing this for a while, i just havent gotten around to it yet. I think that the main obstacle would be the mounting system.

I can get different style eyes, so mounting them flat against the side of the gun, versus sliding into the side of the breech (Intimdator style) is a possibility. The problem I see with that is that you'll have to mount the second eye hole a bit farther back, because of the detent. Now is that what that setting is used for? It would be possible to mount both eye components midway up the breech, but that isn't the optimal position for them. You'd have to crank your eye delay (or whatever its called in E-blade talk) up quite a bit so you didn't chop. Setting them both low in the breech is the ideal position, just like many other ACE'd markers.
