We are BYOP. Our field paint is whatever retail paint that has been on the self over 3 weeks. We sell it at 10% below MAP, or at about 30% margin.
Our stores are 30 minutes from Action Village and Discount PB. Both are known to sell paint at retail for $2-$3 over cost. As such, field profitability is near impossible. If we promote FPO at MAP (42% margin), and they promote it near cost (8-12%), we're still considered expensive.
We've been considering ways to enhance value added services, but we're waiting for a few fields to go under.
In 2006 we'll be considering a BYOP membership for those who can prove their gear was bought from a true pro-shop. We're trying to reach out to those who see value in supporting retail outlets that support and invest the sport's future.
