how can i figure it out, if i don't even know what all the parts are.

what kind of noid is it? 5-way?

i don't know what a spool valve is

The spool valve is the red wire thingy on the noid...

I was thinking about one thing...I have an Eclipse QEV in my Ion, and I can't really understand exactly WHAT it does?
It vents the air out of the gun instead of sending it back to the noid, right?
Does the air come from the bolt-chamber and just goes through the banjo and back to the noid originally, or is there air coming in through the hose, and then goes back to the noid?
Because if it's like alternative one - the air just comes into the banjo from the top, and all the banjo is supposed to do is send it back to the noid - then instead of a QEV, I might as well just take out that banjo, right?

I might be misunderstanding the whole thing here, since I don't know much about internals, but if so....enlighten me

No, that is NOT what a spool valve is.

And about the banjo, the noid sends air to the front banjo to put the bolt back into the cocked position. If there was no banjo, the bolt would not move backwards. The QEV is just a one way valve, more or less.

Ok. That cleares the subject, thanks.

Well, in Norway, that red wire thing is called a spool, so i guess the valve connected is the spool valve then :p

For some reason I don't see why you have to be smart to start a thread asking how the Ion works.

A "spool" of wire is a different thing. The wire around the solenoid is called the coil. A spool valve marker is one that uses a one-piece bolt/valve to fire. Technically there's other stipulations but it's not important.

is the pressure of the air holding the bolt back always constant?

when u adj the dwell is it the time it takes to repressurize the front of the bolt?

what is a banjo ??? is there an exploded pic of the ION somewhere?

As long as the reg is functioning correctly, yes the pressure is constant.
When you adjust the dwell you're setting the amout of time that will be allotted for the bolt to slam forward and stay there to release air to fire the ball. If you set it too low and the gun won't cycle, the problem is not enough time is being allowed for the bolt to move. When you set it too high you're leaving the bolt forward after the ball has alreayd been fired and has left the barrel...and air is wasted.
Banjo is the swiveling hose connector for the internal microline.

wait so the pressure from the noid is the same as the pressure from the VA?

does the banjo/qev directly connect to the noid by a hose?

Funny you are smart enough to post worthless crap like this, but not smart enough to hit the "next thread" button at the bottom of the page...

Did smart parts sue after claiming to have the patent on this too? I thought the gnomes were in the cockers... or was that elves??? Sometimes the little people confuse me...

Dang I love that animated gif !!! Too sweet... Worth well over a 1000 words!

Yes, there isn't another reg to drop the pressure. Due to the design of the gun, it would seriously slow the recocking of the bolt if you dropped the bolt presssure. And yes the hoses connect the bolt to the soilenoid.
