Indoor Surface?
What do you guys use as a floor in your indoor fields. What do people like the best out of astro turf or dirt floors? Thanks.

Its a given that people like paintball turf the best, then astro turf, then mulch, then pea gravvel(the pollished* stuff), then prolly dirt.
Mulch is the cheapest. The city or county probly gives it away for free, but you will have to go pick it up, and depending on the size of your city you will probly have to make multiple(I meen alot) pickup loads. Or you can pay a local tree service company to deliver a semi truck load for about $70, make sure it is fine mulch, not where you still have sticks and stuff in it. The free mulch is probably large mulch. You can pay a local tree service to come with a fine mulcher and a bobcat to make it more fine. In the end it will probly be cheaper to just have a couple semi loads delivered.

Artificial Turf is probally the best option but it can get expensive.

Oh i know what it is, it has rubber in it right? Yeah that is very expensive. The only problem with turf is that paint makes it slippery, people can't run as fast. The problem with dirt is that people don't slide as well. I can't think of a good solution. Has anyone ever done carpet? Maybe a shag carpet?

Carpet...
Dont do it. Carpet bites. Paint builds up in the carpet and becomes very slippery and messy.
You can do it if you replace the carpet once a month.
There was a local indoor that used carpet. They closed because of this carpet. Players could not stand the floor.
Turf or dirt worked with some sand would work.

Our local indoor field has a dirt base with some mulch on top. It gets slimey and dirty but with some shoes with tread or cleats playing there is pretty enjoyable. The slipperyness makes sliding fun and it's very soft so you can really lay into the surface.
Aside from being messy we really like it. The field is FSL in Minnesota. www.fslpaintball.com

my local indoor field. http://www.chaospb.com/pages/1/index.htm
has like an astro turf thing that has a draining system under it.call them n ask for gary the owner n ask him for help..they use these machines that like cavum the floor an at the same time wash them with water..the field isnt that slipery.and when u clean it its very gripy.only thing that can cause a small prob is if u run full spped and then turn the other way.u might slip..but check it out..better than jsut getting astro turf and putting it over cement floor.u dont want that.

The college put in the atomix turf and some local baseball fields have their infield the special turf. I think it is sand with the long rubber/plastic turf on it. Than it has small bits of rubber so it is very soft. It is very expensive...
Dirt with mulch may be the best option.
Would like carpet pads with astro turf over it work? Than it would be a little softer. Than just have a tiny bit of dirt over it so it doesn't slip as bad.

the 2 indoors i play at both use carpet but it very low thin carpet and they have a different section of the carpet steam cleaned every night so the cost dont get to high bu ti can get slippery but it is the best for sliding. but then again i have played on turf indoor and where i did they had drains under neath and just sprayed it with a hose.

We use boat carpet at our field. I was able to order it online for relatively cheap compared to turf. We also have a couple of commercial carpet extractors that we use to pull paint out of the carpet every few weeks because we don't have floor drains. It works pretty well as long as we are keeping it clean. Just makes sure you get it glued down real well.

Field Turf is very expensive for a start up surface. I dont know who has done the research but I have a quote for $84,642 just for 18,000 sf.. So i am looking into Astroturf as a solution, if anyone has any valuable input please post up.

Atomix Turf.
Use big squeeges (the kind Tennis courts use) to squeege the paint off. Do it every 2 hours (during heavy play) and you will be fine. You squeege the paint off to the sides and collect it in bins or buckets. Or, just use re-balls

Sand? Well that would be sorta annoying, but without knee pads it hurts to slide on astro turf even with pants.
