Ya I have a Passat. 2008 2.0T
Like any German car, it requires heavy maintenance. Mine is a 2008 and I've had problems with the crank case ventilation, fuel pump module, a defect with a chip that didnt let me start my car, car seat adjuster dying suddenly, and some minor engine problems. However, almost all of it has fallen under warranty, which just ended last summer for me
My Passat requires (not recommends, but actually requires) premium fuel + synthetic oil. I switched to regular fuel for a good amount of time and ended up having minor issues which were apparently related to the octane. I pay ~$80 per oil change for 5-6 quarts. If you can do it yourself, it'd be about $50. Takes ~18.5gal of gas, so about $65 ($3.50/gal) in gas that lasts about 450-500 miles highway (25 to 27mpg)
Despite the expenses, I really like my Passat. It gets good mileage and is a speedy little guy. All of my friends have nicknamed it the space car because it hauls and its an incredibly smooth ride. But if you want one, you have to make sure you can keep up with costs. If you're always strapped for cash, you might want to look to another car. Obviously, not everyone has problems, but VW is known for being a typical German car in terms of upkeep.
