I liked it...thankfully it appears to be well funded, and that doesn't happen often on SyFy.

I watched it hoping for another BSG quality sci-fi show, but didn't get what I was hoping for. I watched some special they had, where they plugged it as a non-typical Stargate show with powerful characters being the main driving force behind the stories. Thought it was pretty mediocre in that regard. The entire plot was fairly weak. I'll still probably watch next week though. I'm hoping, this being the premier, that the pace lacked simply because they spent the whole 2 hours building up.
It's probably hard for someone like me to get into a show like this having not exactly enjoyed any of the previous Stargate series. But the writing wasn't as good as I was hoping, and the overall look was pretty bland. I also hated the constant flash back sequences. Reminded me too much of Lost. Only in space. Lost in space.

The biggest problem I see at this point is the lack of comedic relief. SG-1 was full of it, I don't care to watch Atlantis, but what little I saw of Atlantis had it as well. Universe seems to be trying to fill the void left by the end of BSG, while still continuing the Stargate line, which is not necessarily a bad thing, it's just completely different than any other form of Stargate we've seen yet.
I hold my yay or nay vote until a couple episodes down the line.

After SG:1 and SG: Atlantis, I think I'm all star gated out for now.
I was kinda hoping they'd do another season or 2 of SG: Atlantis, but oh well, they strung that thing out really as long as they could. I just like Joe Flanigan and David Hewlett.

I've watched all of SG1 and only some of Atlantis. Gotta say I'm not thrilled by the casting, Brian Smith just seems too timid and weak for the leadership role. Hope it gets better though. BTW Julia Benson/Anderson is friggin hot.

You should watch sg1, it's leaps and bounds better than universe so far. I think hulu has some of the seasons up, that's where I watch universe cause I don't have cable.

SERIES SPOILER BELOW
What gets me about the end of SG1, Stargate Atlantis and the beginning of Universe is the level of technology they were inundated with, with the demise of the Asgard.
The ships were fitted with technology only matched by advanced races, if that and there was 0 development on this.
Did they decide to just slap on a "oh the Asgard Core will take 10,000 years to unlock" excuse to avoid such developments?
I mean lets be honest here, the opening attack in Universe by 3 Ha'tak vessels would bea piece of cake with Asgard beam technology on the Hammond.

omg we will run out of power and die.
lets take a shuttle and run while th ship goes into sun,
all but 3 people go
ship goes into sun, and surprisingly enough, its solar powered.
pick up people in shuttle, and go.
my high hopes for this series is slowly slipping away.

I liked it so far. I wasn't much of a SG fan to begin with though, only caught episodes here and there. Not too bad thus far. Weak leaders and people who shouldn't be there are the whole point of the plotline. Its not another "Here we are! We're ready for anything!" type of story arc.

its interesting, and i enjoy watching it, but like cmon. its almost like the universe keeps bending in ways to allow everyone to get out of every situation alive.
