Not reading the rest of the thread.

You are an idiot, go to school and learn English. Every time a junkie dies I'm happy for them because they got exactly what they wanted... they got high for the rest of their life. Is it tragic? No it isn't. There was no higher purpose, there was no other person to benefit from their action. They got exactly what they wanted.

So why do people make .jpgs comparing a junky to a SEAL( or any other service member)? Because the SEAL stood for something more than himself... because while the junky only cared for herself the SEAL cared for his team, his comrades, his family, his service and his country... he gave his life because some people made a decision (sometimes) years ago that we would kill and die in a foreign land in ways that no one would ever dare to think of... they don't decide when they die... they don't want to die... they fight with everything they have to live... to fight... to bring their brothers home.

A junky is the exact opposite... a junky will do whatever it takes (including selling six month old babies as sex slaves) to get their fix. They are concerned with only one thing... their next fix and don't care who it comes form. I have hard a junky admit that while he was on meth he "saw" a string of numbers... then "figured out" that those numbers could be a phone number, so he found the number in a phone book then waited outside that persons house with a shotgun.

**** junkies... **** the obsession with celebrities.

Then, after the wave has subsided and I let go I want to watch it slump into a broken mass, whimpering. When the word "why?" crosses it's bloody swollen lips the only reply that will come is "yes... why?".

I haven't posted here in about a trillion years, but I lurk now and again. The difference in national mourning is transparency. Whitney was mentioned in media and in the homes of American families far more than Lt. Michael Murphey the picture even spells his name wrong.

To be honest, most servicemen would prefer to have their sacrifice a bit more low key than a celebrity, primarily because of bastard organizations which we allow to exist like the Westborogh Baptist Church which uses technical legalities of American Liberty to be complete douchbags.

That's the bottom line of American culture, you take the good with the bad because both are often equally presented for the sake of freedom and choice. Whitney was a part of our culture (good and bad) for a long time, hence the attention. Lt. Murphy is also a part of the culture, though a lesser celebrated part but far more important. That's the thing, the important things often don't rise to the top in the media and in the eyes of most Americans. We do celebrate people like Lt. Murphy in movies and television shows. Deep down most people know that Lt. Murphy and people like him are what make America truly great.

BTW I am at Bagram AB right now, so I'm not talking idealistically from my cushy living room couch.

Why do people expect the troops to be treated like celebrities when one is unfortunately killed? Pictures like this have been floating around for a while now and many people agree with them. Now I don't know if this is unpatriotic or not, but I think these things are a bit overdone. I myself have not joined the military, but have much respect for anyone who is enlisted. But my view is, people who join the military know their risks and don't join for the fame. They join to fight for their freedom. Can I say this is correct? People who die fighting for their country should get all the attention they deserve, but this shouldn't mean people have to bash others fame because of accomplishments they made.

Please, Please, Please don't take any of this the wrong way. Any input would be appreciated. Thanks guys!

Let's rephrase the question, why is the death of a celebrity a multi day national headline on every major news station while the death of a service member overseas a footnote to a portion of the news day? ESPECIALLY the celebrities that had downward spirals and huge character faults...

The only thing cushy about Bagram is that I can walk to the PAX and catch a flight to Dubai when I want to. Other than that there are WAY too many people on this base. I'm actually trying to get to NKC or PHX right now.
