ok so what exactly renders a pair of boots "unserviceable"? I mean is it a subjective thing just like a haircut must be "neat and orderly"?

Some leather that is stitched to protect when you accidentally rub your boots together while walking/marching/whatever is slowly ripping the stitch out and apparently this renders them "unserviceable" even though they are less than a year old and have nearly perfect tread on them. Also if it rains then i guess i have to clean my boots that night as water spots are now too dirty for work and i must clean them before donning them for work....

anyone heard of this?

Our batt CSM decided we needed to have 1 person from each unit "help in the DFAC" and I got tasked to do it for a week. In doing so, I got 2 bleach spots on my boots, and i'm talking drops not like bigass half white boots. I got to work and 1sg calls in in rank inspection. Dropped for "unserviceable boots". I looked at my PSG and was like "....show me how to clean bleach spots"
