Most Units in the Marines do not allow half jackets, M Frames Only.. Half Jackets don't cover your face or eyes enough...

Eye Pro saves lives, my friend lost his one eye.. he was 1 foot away from a IED when went off and the Over Pressure took out his 1 eye... shrapnel took his leg off from the knee down, The gear we wear is very heavy and cumbersome but it does save lives

I know some Army units are issuing out Oakleys (I dont know exactly which model they are) but I bought mine thru Oakley gov't sales. Sorry to hear about your bud though.

You can wear other oakleys or whatever around base, but in combat protection>looks. Earpro is pretty important too since you can easily blow your eardrums from an IED.

Over both my deployments Ive never worn Ear pro... I think they issue out high speed ones now that block out certain decibels.. but if your thatt close to IED the over pressure is gonna do the work for you not the sound.. It will prolly collapse a lung and break a few ribs

I had an RPG round hit a wall about 15 feet away from me. I took a few shrapnel hits and received a burn on my eye. The doctor told me if I hadn't had my earplugs in I would probably be deaf now, so I'm pretty grateful I had them. I had the green/yellow combat ear plugs that filter out loud noises only. They cost like 10 bucks a set

Oak's M Frames or ESS or Wiley X's are all that we were allowed ware.

I never wore ear pro except the time we registered the 81mm mortars and it didn't help too much then. I lost a lot of hearing and I have a ringing in my ears now...but it comes and goes I guess it'll get worse as I get older. According to all the tests I took when I was in 29 Palms I'm really close to the max amount of loss/ear damage allowed and still be on duty.
