E36's can easily be had for 5k. I got my 94' 325is Mtechnic with 66k for 4750. They're pretty solid cars and the common issues are cheap to fix if you can diy. 5k M3's are out there but usually high mileage or beat

e36 is such a fun car. the m3 is a little disappointing when it comes to power though. that can be fixed however.

Depends in what you're looking for. I love my BMW and don't mind the lack of power at all. They respond well to boost though

Also its true about the supras, but if you know what your doing its not too bad. My dad replaced it and his put a decent amount of mileage without any troubles. It also was not the stock one he replaced. The company put some cleaner on the head gasket when they replaced it and it ate it up.
I meant e36, my bad.

I wouldn't trust a $5k e36 m3 to get me around every day. e46 is way out of the question.

This. And when your budget is $5k for something you're going to DD, there's only 2 correct choices.

He's not going to find a turbo Celica in his price range, same goes for an e46 M3.

The vast majority of 7M-GTE Supras have head gasket problems around 70k, even at stock power.
What you said about the wrx is slightly true. But high miles doesnt mean much.

The Eclipse have a bad name from the idiots who dont take care of them. As soon as someone says Eclipse people automatically say "those are crap, and unreliable". So not true. The ones that arent reliable are the ones people bough for their kids and never took care of them. Or they try to slap a bumch of ebay crap on them (sometimes name brand) and dont get a good pro tune for it.

High miles on anything are a pain in the dick to deal with. Even with reliable cars, there are things that just wear out over time and the list grows as the car gets older.

Eclipses have their issues. And the GSXs that are in good enough shape that I'd trust DDing will go for more than $5k, I'd imagine.

Get a swapped civic. Quick, and handle decently well. Good power to weight. Most of all very reliable

I recommend using mass transit until you can utilize a bigger budget. It will be worth it in the end. I bet you $100 you won't regret saving up more money.

Explain your reasoning behind that, a swapped civic would demolish an rx8 and 3000gt from a dig and on a track. All while getting gas mileage and still not being a boat.

I can think of any swapped Civic that I would want for $5,000. I can't think of any swapped Civic that is fast for that kind of money either. I'm not ****ting on the cars, there used to be a guy on here with a K20A swapped EK that I was a huge fan of but he had WAY more than $5,000 into it. Civics are economy cars, trying to make them do anything else is generally more trouble than it is worth.

Clean civic chassis: $3k at least
Swap with harness: $1300 minimum when all is said and done
Suspension (a swapped civic with no suspension is a no-no): $800+
Things you'll want to do (intake/exhaust, better brake pads, wheels that aren't steelies, etc): $1000+
