Why is the PSP taking so many chances?? Why can't they just play with the format/rules they have, fix a couple that need to be fixed. They need to take in the best interests of the players now more then ever. And they sure as **** aren't doing that.

All good points except the first one. Assuming you can field a team of 5, you can budget your roster size yourself. If you can't afford to travel with 11... don't bring 11.

Seeing as how they have yet to do anything to change things up from last year, you might want to hold off on making any conclusions.

Those are also major sports with big time revenues from tickets, concessions, parking at stadiums, and others bring back money to fund these players in order to travel. In paintball, players from teams do not have these things to bring in money for them. Paintballers have to be able to afford there travel and play. When was the last time LT and the SD Chargers had to pay for a flight to Chicago to play the Bears.
and

Paintball is a huge physical exertion on a players body. All the running, sliding, and the mental aspect can take a huge wear and tear on somebody. The sport has only gotten bigger and bigger over the years, meaning the level of intensity had increased dramatically. This has only caused players to work harder and longer. It seems as though every paintball magazine I open has an article on how to get stronger and faster to improve your game. It is like that with every other sport.
and

I go back to my point above. I have seen injuries in paintball (nothing major, of course) It may not fall into the "contact sport" category, but sliding and diving can injure a player if a slip up occurs. That can bring huge concern to teams that have a limited roster and can't foot the players for the rest of the event. Injury is a huge concern in any sport but that is why these other sports have rosters with enough for 2 lines and than some, just in case.
and

Teams that do well at an event play can play 8 x-ball games at a single event. If you times that by 5 events that 40 games. Plus most of these teams play regional events too, meaning more games that that to play. Although the season in aspect doesn't look long, to the players and sponsors in can look very long.

If this happens it will probably used to force more teams and players into the Semi-Pro division.

A point does not constitute a "game" of paintball anymore then a shift constitutes a Game of hockey.
Having >10 players on an x-ball roster kinda defeats some of the purpose purpose in my eyes. How many players are on an M-7 roster.
Also in soccer (ugh) you have 11 guys on the field, how many subs do you have? (answer: 3)

I am not counting a point as a game. 4 games prelims, 1 ochofinals, 1 quarterfinals, 1 semifinals, and 1 finals = 8 games. times that by the 5 events per year gives you a max of 40games per year.
Having more than 10 players on the roster makes perfect sense. 2 lines of 5, giving you the chance to have A play followed by B. Secondary players (roster #11/12/13) give you the chance to rotate players around if something major occurs. Injury, Gun issues, Gross penalty, etc....
That is why I am getting to the issue that I am saying.

But why have A followed by B? Why not just have A followed by A again?

That's that same question as why doesn't offense play defense as well in football?

Even if it's only true for the Pro division, this means most Semi-Pro (Or whatever level is right below Pro) teams are only going to have to run with 8 players. That means that teams at the Semi-Pro level that pay for their own entry are either going to have to pay up the ***, or just cut 1/3 of the team when they go pro.
Either way this is a terrible idea.

True 8 is a bad idea.
I am thinking Pro and Semi-Pro will be pretty much the same.

Not even close... That's like comparing grapes and watermelons. You move for maybe like 20 seconds total in most points, and all of that movement is spread between sitting there headchecking...
And they do play both in Rugby.

Why must all of you try to act like paintball is like other sports? Its NOT its a hobby why is it so hard for people to understand that we need to make rules that work for us. I am pretty sure the NFL and MLB don't look at us and say oh man lets do this or that cuz they do it in Pro paintball. These are some of the HUGE problems this sport/hobby has. People are trying to make it something that it is NOT. I love this game and I want to see it grow but making paintball like other sports is wrong. We need to make paintball rules and guidelines that are good for out sport/hobby!

I knew it was 7. Thanks for posting it though, so everyone else can see the point i was tryng to make.
All these format changes, player changes, paint caps etc. are what make paintball so great. The variety of formats should NOT be looked down upon.
THeres infinity different field layouts (well, hypothetically) and nobodies saying "WE NEED ONE FIELD LAYOUT, PEOPLE WILL BEGIN TO ACCEPT THE ONE FORMAT".
The sport grows, changes and flows; it always will.
Fields will have fads, formats will become fads, etc etc.
Having one championship (forever more the PSP world cup?) would be nice though; what little kid doesnt dream of raising lord stanelys cup.

Good call on my bad math.
I understand your point though; the question is does it add or subtract something to force players to play back to back? I personally like physically demanding things. Some people like more skill laden things.

we need to be expanding on the number of pro teams rather than limiting them.
