chair force for the win.

srsly tho, I was security forces. loved it.

not many jobs let you carry around automatic weapons and jack with people all day.

I loved all the wierd looks I'd get when I'd go into the subway on base with my M-249 slung on my back.

The general consensus over on the SF forum from those who've gotten to eval both of these seems to be that the HK416/417s are awesome and the SCAR has ****ty ergonomics and a poor quality suppressor/flash hider mount which rattles all the time when you fire.

My favorite weapon system
Para M249 w/ rail forend+gangster grip, M68 CCO, and surefire w/drop mount. I did the 'Navy SEAL' mod to it and took off the bipod legs. This thing was like a beast for CQB

I blacked it out a while back since I had radio we were testing that was classified (but isn't anymore). The only time I ever 'operated' was when I performed open heart surgery on a haji with that SAW... the patient did not make a full recovery. I should be sued for malpractice.

Cant say I agree with taking off the bi pods or putting on a scope.. its a support weapon meant to traverse, and lay down grazing fire, without bi pods and you cant do that accurately.. and with the sights you get tunnel vision .. unless the forward hand grip is the one that pops out to be bi pods which is homo..

You killed a Old man with it?

most optics that the inf. fields are meant for 2 eyes not 1 so you have both open and 1 looks though it and the other is used for prif/tracking. all I had on my SAW was the para stuff like the one above (I didn't get the cool M4 butt stock I had the old one like above) a PEQ2 mount (broke the thing) sure fire(3 battery one) and a broom stick and nut sack for the ammo

um.. its not a scope its a reflex sight. A SAW isn't necessarily a support weapon (like the 240). It can be accurately employed at medium range from the shoulder. Not to mention iron sights are useless at night.. I was primarily using this weapon on night raids where we were air assaulting onto objectives. Obviously the bipod would be necessary when fighting in open ground, but in an urban/cqc environment they are useless and get in the way. Different optics/accessories are needed for different missions, that is the idea of modular weapon systems. When you fast-rope onto an objective, you need to reduce length and bulk.

Yeah but in the day to day security patrols, I know marines anyway we rarely carry a 240 its not practical to carry it because you cant take enough ammo to suppress even if we had to.. Dont you have Peq 2 for at night? For Raids where your going to do just that one mission sure, but for Iraq, and doing just presents and security patrols I would keep them on

Sharpshooter it depends on your team leader and squad leader and what they think you should carry

Yea definately, we had the 240s for a while and it was ridiculous to carry ammo for them. I would put the legs back on for foot patrols, but usually took it off for either air assault or vehicle ops. There is a VTAL mounted on the other side of the rails (similar to a PEQ2 but better). Having the reflex is awesome because it allows you to have a better night sight when you have your NVGs flipped up.

Just the same thing as a peq 2 with a brighter IR illuminator and a quick release mount, nothing special.

So depending on which one you are, your leadership will choose for you.. you see Weapons Platoons become Line Platoons so they carry weapons just like the rifleman and just drop the heavy guns
