Custom marker from scratch

I'm currently working on designing a spool valve marker and I need you to help me.

I don't want to spend too much money to machine every parts so I would like to use the body and frame of an existing marker. I was thinking about using a Proto Rail because :
- it's not too expansive
- it uses the eye pipe
- air passes from the solenoide to the body by pipes, so it's easy to modifiy

Before buying a Proto Rail, I would like to be sure that my parts can match with the body. Somebody could help me by measure the external diameter of the bolt and "drive train" (the part with 4 o-rings on this picture) ?

Nobody owns a Proto Rail ?

To show you that I really will make a prototype, take a look at this thread

I have 2 PMRs,theyre very fussy,I would recommened using an Ion XE,parts and markers are dirt cheap and theyre are a ton of aftermarket parts,Ions have always worked better for me,PMRs always seem to have leaks and tuning them is a real PITA,heres my newest mod I did with an Ion

The stock frame is VERY soft aluminium,I did all the "machining" with a drill prss and Dremmel bits

Impressive custom marker !

As I said in the first post, I just want to use the body and the frame of the marker. The goal of the project is to design a totally different drivetrain and to put it into a Proto Rail body.

But before buying a used Proto Rail, I just want to know the external diameter of the drivetrain (to be sure that the body is compatible with my design)

OD of firing can\bolt assembley is .995 from an 2007 PMR,my micrometer is a cheap digi so it probably +/-,also using the TechT bolt, doesnt change the OD.This is a pre eye pipe version,my teammate has a 2011,Ill check with him but i believe the bolt&firing can is the same

using an existing body isn't really building from scratch. its modding and piecing.

If you want to do some work bob long just made a nice little opportunity available in the form of his 170 dollar spool engine. Maybe have a body made and use a UL frame. etc, etc...

Thanks Punisher068. If your measures are right, I could use a Rail body.

I agree phantommagot, the first step of the project can't really be called "from scratch", but it is the final goal. I just want to verify that my concept works great before finishing to design frame and body.

so your building your own spool engine and looking for a body to fit it?

I just bought a Proto Rail, I would be able to begin detailed design next week if I receive it quickly

Sorry but I prefer not to post pics of CAO before having machined parts and tried it.

But I just received a Proto Rail (thank you again Punisher068 for measures) and updated model to fit the Rail body.

Finally, I would be able to post an animation of this spool design because it is blocked by a Dye patent...

Anyway, that would work for private use. But I have some troubles with my animation. Original file works well on my computer but not when I upload it on Imageshack.

5 months later...here are two pictures. I can't post an animation, that doesn't work on Imageshack

Don't meant to hate, but your animations look a whole lot like a shocker/luxe.

Not really, it is a blow forward spool. Pretty neat. Should have a nice mechanical dwell if the surface areas are balanced properly

Indeed, it doesn't work like a Luxe/Shocker, but rather like NT. I don't control the air on the front of the bolt. This flow moves the bolt backward and fills the chamber. To shoot, I add air (controlled by the solenoid) on the back of the bolt. Moving forward, the blot shut off the flow on the front and seal the chamber.

So it is more like a blow backward spool

Won't work as drawn bro. The bolt will only reset in that little area where the reg supply to bolt is sealed. Cool concept though.
