Magna RF Transmitters and the Ego9

UPDATED 6 MARCH 2009

Customers who are using late-edition (recently manufactured) Magna RF Transmitters with their Ego9s should NOT connect the transmitter to the solenoid connector on the Ego9 board. Doing so may cause the board to shut down when the gun is fired due to the excessive power requirement of the transmitter. RF transmitters should ONLY be connected to the AUX connector which has been specifically included on the board for this purpose.

Customers may also be experiencing difficulty in getting the Ego9 to detect a late-edition Magna RF Transmitter when the transmitter is connected to the AUX connector. This issue is a result of timing incompatibilities between the transmitter and the Ego9 and is easily resolved with an upgrade to the Ego9 firmware. This upgrade, version 1.20, is available from our Rhode Island (US) and Manchester (Europe) Service Centres or at any national event at which there is Planet Eclipse technical support.

I tried it in mine just to see if it worked and when i pulled the trigger to sync it it just turned the gun off... Will that be fixed with the new update or is that a greater problem?

Is your battery level okay?
Are you plugged into the auxiliary port?

If the answer to both these questions is yes then it sounds like you have a short circuit somewhere. Try the following -

Unplug the lead from the auxiliary connector. Does this fix the problem?

If not then you have a board problem. Check the auxiliary socket for anything that could cause a short. If nothing is obvious then contact gerry at planeteclipse dot com who will arrange a replacement board.

If so then remove the transmitter from the lead and plug the lead back into the board. Does the problem return?

If so then the short circuit is on the lead. Check the 2 lead plugs for anything that could cause a short. If nothing is obvious then contact gerry at planeteclipse dot com for a new lead.

If not then the problem is with the RF transmitter and you should contact the manufacturer.

Hope this helps.

Thanks for the reply. I was actually using the splitter and hooking into the solenoid lead on the board. It would just turn off when the trigger is pulled. I replaced the battery as one of the first things to fix and it still did it. It shoots just fine and normal without it though. I will get the harness to hook directly into auxillary port and try it again before sendind out my board to be flashed. Since it works fine without the splitter plugged in im guessing the short is in the splitter somewhere.

Or the shortcut can be on the board....

Yesterday we got the planet eclipse gear, containg 8 ego09 lagoon.
When we hooked up the harness as empire recomends and connected the RF Chips on 2 seperate markers, the guns just turns off when fireing.
I disconnected the RF Chip and dident remove the harness, and then the shortcut was gone. That exclueds the harness. Both RF Chips has been used on a ego's before, and has in the meantime been stored in anti-shock plastic bags.

What is the chance that both chips has been shortcutted? Unlikely if you ask me...

Please help, sorry for the poor english.

Bjorni,

I'd like to get my hands on your board / transmitter combination for evaluation. If you drop me a line (steve.m at planeteclipse dot com) then I'd be happy to swap them for a working board / transmitter.

Edit: Are you in Europe? I believe that you may have spoken to Robert at Eclipse UK today. If so then we do not need you to send your loader however can you please send us at least one of the RF chips that you have been having problems with.

Thanks in advance.

The new software resolves the sync issue and will be released very soon. Please don't send any boards in yet.

Just wait until the final release note of a new firmware.
It will tell you on how to get the update as soon as it is available.
