Paintbology - Official Video Thread

Welcome to Paintbology 101 - the poor man's paintball guru.

Hi guys, and Welcome. In this thread I'll be releasing videos from my good friend Mr Joe Barrett (Derder Joe). Joe is a current PSP D1 and former NPPL Pro paintball anchor/machine gun turret. Joe taught me some of the finer points of paintball, and with his videos shares how he sees the game. In this content you're going to find hidden gems such as smart ways to pick up some extra kills, live longer, or play better as a team.

If you really want to be the best, you'll have to beat Joe Barrett on the way! So this is a good place to start!

These videos are for mostly younger players, I might say people with between 2 and 5 years of experience can learn the most, but I've been playing paintball 15 years and still learn new things when I'm filming these episodes!
Stay tuned!

Paintbology #14 - Paintball Cruise Control
Quote:
Paintball on Cruise Control is control of your side of the field, and dominance of all phases of the breakout, gunfight, and movement. Cruise Control means no difficult decisions, or insecurity, cruise control means getting down the highway and getting things done!

You'll see a lot of higher level paintball players use this technique. They all use this technique. And when games are won quickly and decisively it's because they played the game on cruise control!

There's a lot to take in here, 3 steps to perfect paintball, but Joe Barrett breaks it down into manageable bites and explains how and why Paintball on Cruise Control can work for you!

This lesson is dedicated to Doug Kennerly of Digital Kaos. Peaceful travels Doug, you will be missed.

Paintbology #13 - Decision Making, Field Awareness, and the Importance of the #3 Player
Quote:
Joe Barrett plays a few points with Toronto Chargers and discusses what he's doing and why. There a few gems in here dont miss them.

Point 1 @0:00 - Containing snake attack and a well executed counterpunch

Point 2 @3:56 - Why the back player must protect the D-Side Island and a bonus sneaky snapshooting technique

Point 3 @8:40 - D-Corner play, stretching out to snap a shot, then an inside move. More examples why the #3 player's job is so important to support D-Side Island.

Point 4 @13:43 - A bad breakout, see why

Point 5 @17:30 - Counterpunching over-aggressive snake player

Point 6 @20:16 - Slide-out and Switch-off between #2 & #3 player to relieve Snake & D3 pressure. Good example of communication and problem solving.

Special thanks to Warriors Paintball of Batavia, NY for the great field and practice.

Paintbology #12 - Handing the Ball Off and Closing Games
Quote:
There is an art and skill to finishing points. Everyone knows what a good close looks like, but not everyone knows how to make it happen. When the forwards have done all they can do it's time to hand the ball off to the backfield and let them break open the game.

If you're a backfield player and want to take your game to the next level this one is for you! Check in with Joe Barrett and learn how to take the ball and run with it.

Paintbology #11 - Paintball on Cruise Control
Quote:
Paintball on Cruise Control is control of your side of the field, and dominance of all phases of the breakout, gunfight, and movement. Cruise Control means no difficult decisions, or insecurity, cruise control means getting down the highway and getting things done!

Paintbology Films Session - WCO '14 Houston Heat vs. Tampa Bay Damage
Quote:
In this episode of Films Session Joe breaks down a nice point played in the prelims of WCO '14.

Watch Films Sessions with Joe and get schooled.

RIP - Paul Richards

Paintbology #10 - PSP Mudfest '15 Debriefing
Quote:
Joe Barrett breaks down the field from Dallas. Check this one out, since this field was so "typical" you'll certainly see a version of it at a field near you sometime this season. Pay attention to how Joe sees the D-Side and Snake Sides play to sharpen your own game senses and awareness. A good lesson in how bunkers shape the lanespace.

Paintbology #9 How Your Hopper Could Kill You

Quote:
It's pretty common sense that sticking your hopper into the line of fire will get you eliminated, but a lot of players dont know how to properly play within the limits of the Triangle of Death.

Joe Barrett breaks it down in Paintbology #9, so check in for some quick discussion and see if YOU know how to play the Triangle of Livable Space.

Paintbology #8 - Bunker Manipulation - How to Replace Dangerous Head-Checks with Sneaky Peaks!
Quote:
If you're a corner player or trying to create angles when up the field this video is for you.

How many times have you found yourself in a tall bunker with no ability to pop the top to get a look down field? Paint is screaming down both sides of your bunker and if you can't see what's coming you'll soon be a dead man walking. Find out from Joe Barrett the one trick to keep you alive and get back to doing whatever your team needs to end the point on your terms.

Paintbology #7 - Kentucky Crosshand the Right Way!

Quote:
You might see some of today's stars twisted up in a can or aztec flinging paint across their body doing what's known as the "Kentucky Crosshand" (A term coined by American pioneer Davy Crocket). You might wonder what's different about what they are doing versus the crosshanded goonery the local agglets on the field are doing. This video will give you all the advantage you'll need when some young Indian comes flying down the D side and and you need to fall back to the Alamo.

#6 - Mr Dependable: The Dorito Insert
Quote:
The dorito side insert player needs to be one of the most consistent players you know.

This player will need to survive if you want to win the point.

There's a lot of pressure on this player, but there's just one thing you've got to do if you want to play this spot.

Joe Barrett is a man who has played this position against the best in the world, and he'll tell you what you've absolutely got to know.

Paintbology #5 - How to Attack Dorito Side and Disrupt Opponent Gameplans
Quote:
The "Dependable D-Side" is where the true 'ballers come to play. Step up your game by watching this video, make sure you're on the ball today because Joe Barrett is coming with some higher level math . And look out for the one tip to get your insert and front players to finally mesh together like they should.

Paintbology #4 - Become a Thorn in Their Foot! - Picking Zones and Controlling Lanes
Quote:
Learn the totally obvious way to shoot a zone that you never thought of before! Never let a player move up the field on you again.

Joe Barrett comes back with another Paintbology video to explain how he makes sure front players can't get through his zone. He breaks down why it works, and how to effectively pull it off. He also tells you the one weakness that you'll need to know in order to pull this off.

Paintbology #3 - Pro-Level Snake Dominance
Quote:
Wondering how a player knew when to make the move? How did that team figure out the best play to use?

Joe Barrett breaks it down in this video explaining how many teams approached the World Cup 2014 layout and provides examples and advice on pushing the advantage on the snake side.

Paintbology #2 - Dominate the Snake Without Trying Hard
Quote:
Winning the snake game isnt about having the best gunfighters, it's about doing a job. If you can't beat the local goonsquad you need to learn how to plan to win, so join Professor Joe Barrett as he explains how to dominate the snake side, when to execute your bunker move, and how to protect your players in an end game situation.

Painbology #1 - Effective Snake Breakouts and Why Running Off the Break Wont Work
Quote:
Professor Joe B is going to explain the finer points of snake breakouts here. Sometimes throwing a dude into the snake off break isn't an option, so tune in to find out how to get a guy in there and win the game.

I'll be adding new videos to this post as we go along and release them, so check back every couple of weeks.

Subscribe to this thread, and to our youtube! Thanks guys!!
