I played my first CXBL events in the West. Trying to help Darcy take down Impact haha. That was...07. I miss it man, easily one of the best leagues I've ever played in.

I probably would have ended up playing with you if I hadn't quit haha, I played a couple seasons with one of the Outcast teams.

All i hear about is how much better the CXBL was in its "hayday" I have been playing in it for 3 years now. Started in cx4 and last year moved up to RT5(Div3/4) The league is still surviving. I dont think they are turning a profit and times have been tough but they still run 4 different divisions and 4 events.

www.cxbl.com

This year has been a complete change and hopefully for the best as they adopted all NXL rules including 10.5bps at all levels. They ran reffing clinics with the help of the NXL and are trying to do it right. I guess only time will tell if the league can survive.

Currently they have 23 CX5 teams(div 4) and 15 RT5 teams(div 3) 14 RXL(div 2??) and 8 MXL(div 1??) but the quality of players overall has decreased even in the 3 years ive been playing.

I wonder if the affiliation with the NXL will help the CXBL survive, and perhaps push out this way again (I would hope some of the NXL overlords would recognize the west, considering it's where they came from...)

I think the west could use another option when it comes to tournaments.

EDIT: actually, after thinking about that for a few more seconds, I don't think another league would be that great. There's not a tonne of teams here (even though the CPPL seems to be doing ok) and diluting the player pool probably wouldn't help anything.

Sure it may survive as an NXL affiliate but it's appeal used to be in that it was the sole league in North America (and maybe the world?) that was running true old school X-Ball. 15 BPS, 2 halves, 2 and 5 minute penalties, no "Race-To".

It was a great time.

Not to say the current format is bad or anything, just different. Times change.

To be fair, no real league makes any money.

The reason you always hear about how awesome it used to be is because it was the last place to play real xball. Real Xball obviously isn't a sustainable format, but holy **** is it fun. Plus tons of American pro's came up to play, so the level of competition was super high. You could learn a lot and progress as a player very easily by playing Elite.

There's pretty much no reason to start a league in Western Canada. Let's face it, nobody can put on better events that Mike Carey without shelling out ridiculous amounts of money. So the only way the NXL would succeed is by spending a ****load of money to steal players from an already established (and incredibly well run) league. Plus Carey was a pro back in the day, so he probably has contacts at the NXL.

At this point, Carey would be an affiliate if he thought it was worth the effort.

True. I've known Mike a long time, used to work for him reffing the then MR Series. He knows how to put on a show.

Same thing as every other foreigner, teaching english

It's aight here, it's ****ing stupid hot and humid, you pretty much just sweat constantly because there's no central AC. Japanese people are super nice, and the convenience stores are dope. The hotsprings (aka Onsen) here are ****ing life changing man, easily the best thing I've experienced in the last month.

Not being able to play ball ****ing blows. Blackstaffe posted a vlog about practice last week, got me missing the grind for sure.

Are there no local fields?

I have a friend who taught in Japan for 8 years before returning home with his wife two years ago. Sounds like an insane place to live.

Haven't even bothered to look into it. Too expensive to ship my gear over here, and not a single person that I've talked to has heard of it. It's interesting living here, it's different and similar at the same time. Different language, different culture, different lifestyle, etc. But at the same time, people are people man, no matter where you go, it's still just people living their lives.

That being said, I just discovered that there is a mother****ing massage chair in the house I'm living in. Holy **** boys, on that **** e'eryday

In light of the dead thread, I wanna give a shout out to my boys the Lucky 15's. They're the team I played with in the UK which are shooting up the ranks. Playing SPL this year in the Millenium they've placed 24th, 10th, and 2nd at the most recent event, losing in the finals to the Russian Legion.

That's a hell of a progression, 24th to 10th to 2nd? Right on.

Didn't have the best event this past weekend, failed to make finals by mere points but overall I feel like we played well as a team. Our one guy still isn't cleared to play (docs orders after getting shot in the eye the event before) and we definitely feel his absence on the field so we'll be looking forward to his return next event.

Christ was is hot though, completely took it out of me by days end.

Next event we're jumping over to X Division (xball) so that should be interesting.

Yeah, they're a driven, well run, well supported and talented team. Play really well together. Have been growing and moving up the ranks in the UK to the point where they're one of the Top 3 teams there.

When's the next CPPL event?

Hahahah nah, been lucky to play ball in a few places with some good players and fun guys. Stoked for them though since they donate 100% of their winnings to cancer research.
