Look here for NXT eye problems

Well i have seen so many threads with people having eye problems with their nxt, when the problem is so simple. Smart Parts has used reflective eyes with all of their sft shockers, and in 2007 they created the nxt and changed to breakbeam eyes. Most aftermarket boards are compatable with sft's and nxt's, so they have a setting that sets the eye type. If you are having a problem with your eyes where your eyes are basicly working in reverse (when there is somthing in the breach, the gun says that there is nothing, and when there is nothing in the breach, your gun says there is something)

The tadao m6 and earlier boards do not have breakbeam capability, but the m6.1does. The defalt mode is reflective. To change the eye mode on the m6.1, you go the the flickering green setting. Mode 1 is reflective and mode 2 is breakbeam.

Some virtue boards have breakbeam capiblity. To find out if you do, scroll through the settings and the last setting should be yellow. If you do not have a yellow then your board does not have breakbeam capiblity. Do not worry, you can send your board to virtue and they will updated it for free. The default is reflective mode and and to change it you simply go tho the yellow setting and mode 1 is reflective and mode 2 is breakbeam

well i hope this helped

hater settings: (v.3 software, the latest psp update includes this)

Hold the trigger down while turning the gun on, this will bring the board into programming mode. Click the trigger until the led displays a Flickering teal. hold the trigger once there until the led turns off. Click the trigger once for breakbeam mode, twice for reflective. The board will flash the number of times you clicked the trigger to make sure you entered the correct amount, and then flash through a rainbow sequence of colors. simply turn off the marker from there to save the settings.

Verify that the marker is set on the proper eye mode. For the stock board, activate beam-break eyes by holding the Dwell Up button while turning the marker on (this enters "forced" mode). For reflective eyes, hold both dwell buttons while turning the marker on to enter reflective eye mode.

found out how to fix it on the stock board. THANKS GUYS!!!

if its the stock board, i would say its the board too.

If you have a virtue board, you have to make sure its in the right eyes mode. Reflective or break beam. If you have an NXT and leave it in Reflective it will work backwards. It will only fire without a ball in the gun. Some virtue boards will also fire in certain modes with no paintball present at a much slower ROF.

Also you need to make sure that the flex cables are securely attached to the board, i've had them come out.

great news is that smart parts is VERY great about repairing their guns. they only charged me $10 in repair costs to fix the following:

- broken macroline fitting on my orange NXT's reg
- damaged on/off switch on board in my silver NXT
- tuned, lubed, rebuilt bolt for my 4x4 sport

and i paid about $20 in shipping for all of that and got it in 2 days.

CALL OR GO ONLINE, GET AN RMA CREATED, AND SEND IT OFF!!!!

Is the eye ribbon plugged in to the upper board the right way up?
Any kinks in the eye ribbon?
Any bent pins in the in the harness sockets?
Any loose wires in the harness?
Any damage to the harness?

The silver strips on the tail of the eye ribbon should face down towards the frame.

Maybe this will be useless to everyone, or covered elsewhere...but I've experienced eye trouble when using reflective/metallic shell paint with my NXT.

I think that Virtue were the only people making ribbon laser eyes, but I could be wrong. They aren't listed on their site anymore, but I'm sure you can find them still.

Yeah that's one of the first places I looked and they weren't there. I just have to shop around. I hate myself for breaking my eye wire. Thanks for the quick response.

So if I turn the board to "breakbeam" and I turn the gun on and it fires with nothing in the breach and then goes to a capped ROF...are my eyes bad? Might be a dumb question, but this is my first shocker.

What board are you using?
Are you actually shooting paint, blocking the eyes, or trying to shoot with nothing in the breech?

Virtue board. Nothing in the breach and the board is set to break beam, the gun fires once, the light flashes indicating the eyes have failed and the board is limited to a slower rof unless I press the on off again to turn the eye mode off.

When in reflective mode, no paint in breach or WITH paint in breach, the gun will not fire unless I hold the trigger in for half a second for a forced shot. Once again, if I push the on off again and turn off the eyes the gun shoots.
