Stuart Steven's Wash Post column setting the GOP up for future fail
Mitt Romney: A good man. The right fight.
So let me start with his closing remarks,
Quote:
Yes, the Republican Party has problems, but as we go forward, let’s remember that any party that captures the majority of the middle class must be doing something right. When Mitt Romney stood on stage with President Obama, it wasn’t about television ads or whiz-bang turnout technologies, it was about fundamental Republican ideas vs. fundamental Democratic ideas. It was about lower taxes or higher taxes, less government or more government, more freedom or less freedom. And Republican ideals — Mitt Romney — carried the day.
|
Now I can live with that but the part that has me confused is earlier in his column when he says this...
Quote:
On Nov. 6, Romney carried the majority of every economic group except those with less than $50,000 a year in household income. That means he carried the majority of middle-class voters.
|
According to tax policy center http://taxpolicycenter.org/numbers/C...F/T11-0089.pdf, $50,000 is the 56.5 percentile. That means that 56.5% of the US tax filers are in an ecomomic group less than $50,000.
The problem with Steven's and the GOP logic is even if the GOP takes 100% of the middle and upper class vote it would still only give them 43.5% of the popular vote.
This "ignoring the 47%" is paramount to assuring you will lose any Presidential election. Espically when you consider that the middle class is expected to continue to shrink putting more and more voters in to the "47%" catagory.
If your ideas are only popular with an ever shrinking minority clearly something about your message is fundamentaly wrong.

Something he glosses over is that these supposed results are driven by heavily lopsided results in southern red states. It takes a special kind of delusion to think Mitt Romney carried anything; he went down in flames and helped the party suffer losses across the board.
But you do raise a good point that the GOP is incredibly dumb for believing this yet pursuing policies that increase the number of people at or below mean income. It's not just that their minority constituency is shrinking -- they are actively shrinking it.

The real kicker is that many republicans think that low income and minority voters should favor their party and are simply being bribed by liberal promises which the voters can't see past.
Conservatism should have the benefit of appeal simply by supporting less government intervention in daily life. The fact that conservatives took such a loss in a totally winnable election is simply proof that voters do not favor their brand of conservatism.

One might suggest that the conservative disinformation machine is so pervasive and effective, that such fine gradations are not the determining factor. Rather, I think we have reached a point where it's hard for people to fool themselves. In the face of hopelessness, we look for a strong entity to help us out, and we know that corporations don't have our back. With the economic crash many people found out first hand how badly corporations will screw them to protect themselves, while government will go into heavy debt to help them out.
It's not too hard to figure out which one of those they are going to side with.

Cause you and the rest of the liberals are always upright, honest, honorable citizens. Right?
The Republicans need to get rid of the religious overtones that hover above their party. Their desire to maintain religion as part of their platform doesn't change the fact that you represent a party of race baiting looney toons who will give Hispanics all the illegal aliens amnesty support they want just to keep their vote and stay in power. Just keep giving food stamps to inner city people who have no desire to work, teaching dependency is how gonzo thinks **** is supposed to work.

Asians are communists by nature (look at china, north korea and vietnam). The vietnamese are even trying to bring communism to two cities nearby me, westminster and garden grove. In westminster alone they are 40% of the city's population so what do you expect.

I read an article... or heard about it on a talk show, recently. I will dig around and see if I can find it. It was REALLY interesting.

Christianity is a LARGE part of their base. It would be more wise for them to court all religions as opposed to just the dead Jew cult. Most of your Hispanics are deeply Catholic.
You need to face a simple fact my friend, the significant portion of conservatives are religious. A historical precedent to drive home my point: a man named Charles Maurras led a fundamentalist Catholic uprising in France, Charles is believed to have been an atheist.

All of those are small countries you listed, china alone dwarfs all of them, which makes them the majority, and your list of countries irrelevant in comparison.

If those are all small countries then by your standard the only one which counts is China, which is ridiculous.
Still haven't addressed the Jews too.

No you didn't, you said "china" and stamped your feet like a little child instead of actually trying to defend your hypothesis.
Go take your medication.

When did I say china and then stamp my feet? I don't remember that ever happening. Looks like you're the one who needs to take your medicine since you're clearly hallucinating.
