RIP Sen. Daniel K Inouye, a true hero

My state, and the country, has lost a great man today. And a politically important man as well, as senate president pro tem.

Sen. Daniel K. Inouye dies at age 88 of respiratory illness

He wasn't much for show, and I bet many people don't even know him or much about him. But a look through his personal and political history is nothing short of inspiring, and he was prominently involved in many of the biggest congressional actions of the last 50 years.

It's a model new congressmembers would do well to reach halfway.

PS This is a test.

Good riddance. If only the remaining 99 yahoos would follow suit we might actually be able to fix this country.

I find it rather repulsive for someone to dismiss the death of a man as "good riddance". If you disagree with him politically, that's fine. But to be so callous as to rejoice the death of another man, well, let's just say you lost a lot of respect in my book.

I'd recommend you take a measure of the man in question to understand just how odious.

Lol, would you mind to summarize? Actual politics tend to bore me.

P.S. My background isn't white...

I'd say read the linked article, there's not that much politics in it other than the broad strokes. The man operated mostly behind the scenes. The man was a full blown hero and inspiration before he even entered politics.

He had more balls than you will ever have, let alone your children's children if you ever manage to reproduce.

On April 21, 1945, Inouye was grievously wounded while leading an assault on a heavily-defended ridge near San Terenzo in Tuscany, Italy called Colle Musatello. The ridge served as a strongpoint along the strip of German fortifications known as the Gothic Line, which represented the last and most dogged line of German defensive works in Italy. As he led his platoon in a flanking maneuver, three German machine guns opened fire from covered positions just 40 yards away, pinning his men to the ground. Inouye stood up to attack and was shot in the stomach; ignoring his wound, he proceeded to attack and destroy the first machine gun nest with hand grenades and fire from his Thompson submachine gun. After being informed of the severity of his wound by his platoon sergeant, he refused treatment and rallied his men for an attack on the second machine gun position, which he also successfully destroyed before collapsing from blood loss.

As his squad distracted the third machine gunner, Inouye crawled toward the final bunker, eventually drawing within 10 yards. As he raised himself up and cocked his arm to throw his last grenade into the fighting position, a German inside fired a rifle grenade that struck him on the right elbow, severing most of his arm and leaving his own primed grenade reflexively "clenched in a fist that suddenly didn't belong to me anymore". Inouye's horrified soldiers moved to his aid, but he shouted for them to keep back out of fear his severed fist would involuntarily relax and drop the grenade. As the German inside the bunker reloaded his rifle, Inouye pried the live grenade from his useless right hand and transferred it to his left. As the German aimed his rifle to finish him off, Inouye tossed the grenade off-hand into the bunker and destroyed it. He stumbled to his feet and continued forward, silencing the last German resistance with a one-handed burst from his Thompson before being wounded in the leg and tumbling unconscious to the bottom of the ridge. When he awoke to see the concerned men of his platoon hovering over him, his only comment before being carried away was to gruffly order them to return to their positions, since, as he pointed out, "nobody called off the war!"

See: http://books.google.com/books?id=aOj...page&q&f=false

In short: go **** yourself Animal Mother. Inouye was one of the closest things this country had to a true statesman, and he actually put his life on the line so you can be a horse's *** on the internet.

So do John McCain and John Kerry. Does that make them good and honest politicians? Will I be saddened when they die? **** no. And fortunately for you guys and the rest of the world, I have reproduced.

I put my own life on the line so I could say whatever I want on the internet. And **** these career Senators, they are a huge problem in this country. This guy did 9 terms at 6yrs a piece. You honestly expect me to believe that this guy never did anything corrupt to **** over Americans in his years of "service"?

I respect this guy's service in combat, but that doesn't negate that I am not surprised or saddened by his death at 88yrs old.

"Not being surprised or saddened" is not the same thing as "good riddance", you asshat.

This this this. If the Guy Danny was so heroic as the passage displays, than I doubt it would have been difficult for him to do anything heroic in Congress like expose the rotten eggs or blockade the corrupt individuals.God bless the man, rip but animalmother sais it right. 1st thing I learned in the army...nomatter what I say or do wont make a go dam difference. McCain was a pow for nothing and he knows it because he has only dived into the dark side himself and becoming a problem. Don't agree with career sens nor their free healthcare.

Have you heard of these things called elections? They happen every once in a while and the population within a region is given power to elect whomever they want as their representative for said population in multiple fields of governmental positions. This guy was so well-liked that he was re-elected 9 times. He had a very high approval rating and reflected the wishes of those he represented. If the people weren't happy, they'd vote someone else in.

Are you trying to equate the amount of terms one can serve to represent the entire country compared to the amount of terms one can serve to represent 1/100th of the country? Vastly different principals there.

Sure, I agree with the 22nd amendment.
