Ive spoken to Tom via Facebook and he has posted a couple pics on his FB page... the latest being the placing of a Piper Cub style plane (less wings) on one of the fields!! Its good that he is getting support from local players and teams... Ive also offered up the team for a work party and encourage others to do the same...
This is a great opportunity for the area and the players. New London County doesnt have a big pool of players compared to other areas, so its important to for those of us in the area to support area fields and activities for the sport.

Hey Bad71, Let me know when I can volunteer my time at the field. Tom told me about the plane, which makes a good prop for his scenario field. Tom will be joining up with me during the West Point game in a few weeks. This will give him a great opportunity to meet vendors, players, advertise for his field. Really looking foward to this field opening up this Spring.

I would definitely be down to volunteer my time, this sounds like such a great idea. CT needs a new field like this. maybe it can attract more people to the sport as well as bigger paintball venues.

I bet we can scare up some MM to help out with the preparations, too. I had a chance to visit with Tom for a while last weekend, and I tell ya: this is a great guy with a fun vision of what he wants to build. We are all going to have a blast there.
Tom, if you read this, a quick suggestion: if you want to do some sort of largish scenario woodsball event this year, pick a date now so that teams can get it on their calendars early. Even if you haven't got a detailed plan yet, pencil something in so we can all be there to support you.
We try to keep a fairly complete listing of the upcoming woodsball events in southern New England and Eastern NY that we know of on our website, so have a look sometime and see if there are any open weekends that might work for you.
Ozzy (and I hope, Tom) - see you at WP!

Great suggestion Winger! Tom will be coming up on Saturday to WP, location: Worcester Wolf Pack Pop up tent, we will have a banner hanging. Please feel free to stop by. We should give Tom the grand tour, he will be in for a treat at West Point! From what I hear there will be close to 1,000 players at this event. This will give Tom a great opportunity to meet vendors, players, make the connections and advertise for his grand opening of this field.

Tom, if you can I would start talking to the MWR on base. There is a large supply of players on base from across the country but may can't have markers in the barracks. If you had some kind of storage lockers that was secure and safe that these guys could buy and store markers with you that might work in your favor. Either way, since you are closer than any field besides the base field, which is small and on the side of a hill. Kinda of like playing at west point only without the epicness. You stand a good chance of getting guys back into paintball from base. Also, I will be contacting you later about a possible command function at your field. No promises just got to get the info together to make a presentation. Oh and if you have a charity event lets me know I have a command that loves to support charities.

ozzy... I do NOT speak for the field, only my team. I offered the team (or members of it) to help out when needed. It's up to Tom and the field to dictate if and when they want to take advantage of the help. Like any other team, we need a heads up in advance to gather the troops, but Im more than willing...

Got my running around done yesterday, so today I wanna take a ride out there and check it out.
Ironic thing is, I pulled up the address on Google maps. I knew I grew up in that neighborhood, but didnt realize I know the guy who owns that property! It's a Sign from the Gods!! HAHA!

I stopped by the field yesterday afternoon and met Tom. He was nice enough to walk the property with me and show the expected layout. He's looking at between 4-6 woods fields open for May. The speedball field is tentative for that date, although he has purchased the bunkers for it.
Apparently he is getting advice and insight from a field in Long Island so thats good to hear that he's not just "winging" this project on his own.
One thing i will say here and now.. Tom mentioned his apprehension about speedball, having heard that speedballers tend to be "high maintenance". I assurred him that like any sport, you have your good and bad, and alot of it depends on the field management, its tolerance of such players, and also the players that frequent each establishment.
With that being said, Each of us know some of "those players", and "those teams", who think they deserve special treatment for one reason or another. I think the success of a well run speedball field will rely on all the players who frequent the place to keep not only ourselves, but others, in check with following the rules and such. It goes a long way in keeping the problem players ( Over shooters, self proclaimed Pros, wipers, cheaters, bullies, etc.) at other fields that will tolerate their behavior.
My reason for stating this is my desire to see a good field start out and remain a good field down the road... Not one that gets overrun by guys and teams who are just looking to intimidate new players and ruin a fields' reputation before moving on to the next...

Yeah, he mentioned he knows he needs to get on here more and converse, but understand this guy is on a mission!! He's spending every daylight hour at the field and he is a husband and father, so his time is well consumed. Be patient everyone... this field is gonna happen, and when he can, he'll be posting updates. Check his facebook page https://www.facebook.com/pages/Field...11359377...and website http://www.fieldsoffiremystic.com for updates
