it does say they should be in groups of 6 or more so i will pick 2 more up and maybe some more cover.
do you think a airpump this nessesary for a fish tank mine just broke?
They certainly can't hurt... I don't use them, but that's because I always get enough surface movement to not need it. If you keep your tank on the warmer side, I would definitely get one. Some fish really enjoy playing in them too. When I had one in my 55, my Rubberlip Pleco used to love playing in the bubbles.

i was thinking 8x2x2 which would be about a little less then 250 gallons (about 240). if i decide to put an FRT in there rather then fish i am going to make the foot print larger. i need to make up my mind in the next week, i want to get the tank finished before thanksgiving and i really wanted to start next weekend. im also going to have to build a sump which should be fun. this is all completely new ground for me, but i figure it really would not be cost effective to build anything smaller so here goes nothing lol.

i am kind of considering going 4x4x2, larger footprint and i think it would look nicer w/ 2 sides glass rather then 1 in a corner. would be harder to clean, but i could get rays with that footprint :3

scrapped this for now . looks like i will be moving in the next month or so and its just not worth it. if anyone wants an assload of marine epoxy let me know lol.

re-doing my community tank, gonna go all live plants and black sand substrait. **** gonna be bosssssssssssssssss

edit: bare bottom rules, thats how they do it in asia! i only like it in big pred tanks tbh, makes things a lot easier.

How often do you do water changes? What kind of filtration do you have on the tank? PS, what size tank is it?

You actually don't need to clean the tank. Only change a certain percentage of the water and you'll do fine (I usually do 20-30% each week). If you do 100% changes and then scrub things, the beneficial bacteria will die off, which can make your tank go through a mini-cycle. If the water is cloudy, it is most likely a bacteria bloom, which is fine. It'll go away in a couple of days. Is the water a different color? Like a yellow color?

Step up the water changes. Do a couple of 30-40% changes this week.

They're very skittish and boring fish.

do you have their real names? i know the yellows are probably labs, but i am not sure about the blues or what lake in africa they are from.

assuming you are talking about the fish i am thinking of you should be fine. make sure you have lots of rocks and hidding spots for them.

red bellied piranhas are very boring after they are bigger than a few inches. i had 5 and when they were small (quarter sized) they were great but as soon as they got about 3 inches long they got real boring, they just hid all the time..

if you are going to get piranaha dont get red bellies they are boring as hell. some of the bigger, solitary species are pretty cool though.

if you want something vicious there are tons of other fish form the same family that are a lot better (wolf fish, cudas, payara, tiger fish, etc) granted, some of those require massive tanks. puffers are also an option. puffers are pretty much the coolest, smartest, and most active fish out there (take a lot of maintenance and need perfect water conditions though)
