My Thoughts on Bob Marley

First of all to start out this thread I am going to say that i am a huge fan of Bob Marley. My only problem is i have a strong dislike for some of his more popular songs but feel that they are necessary to secure a strong fan base.
Like most people I was introduced to reggae music through Bob Marley, mostly because of his more famous songs such as "Get up Stand up", "Buffalo Solider", and " I Shot the Sheriff" ( I am not saying I dislike what they stand for and in any way belittle there meaning ). Now I realize what the true reggae/Bob Marley sound is, and his more popular songs seem to disappoint me when mentioned as his greatest songs. If you listen to songs such as "Mr. Brown" or "My Cup" (Some of his older hits) you realize what his sound really was.
I guess what I am saying is that I am kind of sick of the same old "get up Stand Up"/ "Buffalo Solider" **** that has made him more popular, when that isn’t his REAL sound.

WELL IDK I AM PROBABLY WRONG THIS IS JUST THE WAY I FEEL

an artist's popular songs are rarely their good ones. what makes a single a single I really have no idea, but its definitely good to know an artist by more than what you hear on the radio.

Good lord... This is the whole age old artist progression argument. Its just like when people say a band is selling out or they now dislike a band or group simply because they've changed their style of music. So stop listening to it and get the **** over it. You can't sit there and blame an artist simply for doing what they love to do. Music is an art form; which is heavily influence by the artists and how they feel and where they are in their lives. Artists are people, people change. Therefore so does the music they produce.

I like Bob Marley, and the hits your talking about arent bad, but you are right about the songs that arent big hits are better

I hate the kids who say they love Bob Marley and can't name even 5 songs and they just think the reggea collors are cool and smoking weed is the best thing in the world when they have never smoked

/off topic rant

It's a good thing you established this for all of us. Up until this thread I assumed you were a fake Bob Marley fan, but now I can see you are the real deal.

most kids that wear a bob marley shirt are probably trying to advertise the fact that they are mass produced high school stoners
