if you read all of the atf's rulings on silencers, they have determined that even if a device only lasts for one shot, if it is detachable and will dampen the report of a shot 5 decibels or more, it is considered a silencer. thats where paintball silencers fall into the mix. they can be made to reduce the report of a single shot of a real firearm 5 decibels or more. thats why the atf gets so pissy over them.

Man, who gives a **** about legality.
Why is it that most people make suppressors wrong anyways?

Out of curiosity, If one were to make a "rain gaurd", by covering porting with a foam tube to allow the gasses somewhere to go, but not let rain in, and defended to no end its use as a "rain gaurd" and only a "rain gaurd" with the possible, unintended side effect of quieting the shot. Why would one get in trouble?

Mine is a 'barrel protector" Just don't want to get it scratched up. We paintballers are so fashion conscious with our pretty markers.
In reality, ATF has more important things to do. I worked part time in a sportings good store (paintball dept). Someone brought in a vintage muzzle loader their great great grandpa used in civil war and wanted it mechically refurbished and restored. It turned up missing. So the guy called ATF and they came to investigate. They didn't find it but they DID find numerous weapons where the paperwork and background checks were not done. Several sales to felons (good old boys though). Other guns missing or stolen that weren't reported to ATF etc. They camped out for about 3 weeks reviewing a years worth of gun sales. It was interesting that they said they do not spot check gun stores for gun sales. They respond only to complaints that are filed. Budget cuts. A gun store could be in business for YEARS selling guns illegally and no one would know it until it was used in a crime.
However, your local cop might have a different attitude if he saw it lying in the back seat of your car. Be descreet and I would not transport it assembled and ready to play regardless. I would not have any outstanding warrents or any other contraband either. They will throw the entire book at you and let the lawyers do the plea bargains. Never had a problem AT a field.

I built my Sniper Rifle with an integrated suppressor system. Its basically the length of the entire barrel, plus a couple inches at the end. If you have a closed bolt or custom type marker (like mine), they can decrease the report by 50-90% if you design your suppressor correctly. You need a lot of volume to dissipate the energy. Mine is totally unhearable at 30 yards. but if you have a blowback marker, don't even waste you time. you can suppress the sound of the shot, but not the blowback and impact of the hammer.

In short, what marker are you wanting to put it on??

Silencers are pointless in paintball. Basically a silencer dampens the noise of the air that passes through the venting and the air released when the projectile leaves the muzzle. Problem being that the venting needs to be exposed, and the muzzle break unhindered when present.
These arent firearms, so when you take into consideration the change in physics associated with different types of weapons then it actually hinders the need or effectivity of the application. For instance, the above poster boasts a massive sniper rifle barrel. Normally with traditional firearms the rule is.. the longer the barrel the more accurate the shot. In paintball this is only semi true. Actual accuracy depends on other factors and NOT rifeling like with actual ballistics. Any Barrel longer than 14-16 inchs actually has physics work against range and accuracy.
The air/paint inside the ball spins inside the paintball to make a thin air cover over all the paint in the paintball. The paintball then spins appropriately on its axis. Thus making the paintball accurate. Other factors are ball turbulence and drag on the ball. The longer the barrel the more turbulent drag pushs on the front of the ball with NO WHERE to go... the longer the barrel the more the air pressure disapates behind the ball. This restriction/thrust combination is what limits your paintball's velocity when it exits the barrel.. the more build up infront of the ball the less thrust pushes the ball out because of the equalization of the pressure behind the ball. Its like putting a basketball under water... left alone it launchs to the surface. Push down on the ball and it doesnt rise. Image your pushing action as the turbulence infront of the paintball.
*pant*
Now for the suppressor argument.. the lack of the ability of the pressue infront of the ball to be properly disappated via venting the less velocity actually pushing the ball out of the barrel. If you put a silencer over your barrel you will negate the venting, if you put it infront of the barrel.. my own tests have shown that there is a physics issue here. I havent been able to find it.. but I believe the velocity that is used to launch the ball is disappated throughout the silencer more than in normal air because of a vaccum caused BY the paintball passing through the silencer. Its hard to demonstrate but I have worked on several different silencers and so far none have preformed as well as a normal paintball barrel fire.
I have just found that silencers and 67 inch long sniper barrels.. just simply dont work. Or dont work well enough to be used.

You make some assumptions. 1. My SHROUD is 24 inches long. My barrel is 16 inches long. After the barrel, there are baffles that the ball flies through. 2. the rounds I shoot do not spin.
Paintball silencers DO work. Without my silencer, my marker is louder. With the silencer, its quieter. Its as simple as that. Now, they DO NOT reduce the report as dramatically as a real firearm and they only work well on certain types of markers. And I think that whether or not they are useful, is up to the individual player.

Lol dont take what I said personally. I was making an observation about oversized barrels. And apparently a wrong one, 16 inch barrel... i was just short with the 67 inch speculatin that was more me kidding than seriousness. Those paintballs are onces I have never seen before.. what kind are they? Where do you get them from? And what kinda preformance do they boast.. Ive been studieing paintballs and the attempt to "snipe" and havent come across those yet. And I kinda am curious how your sure they dont spin. I mean dont get me wrong I am NOT in any way shape or form calling your a liar... please please please dont take it that way...
I just see it more as a way of furthering my own research.. And even though the spinning may not be as much a factor for your paintballs if they indeed do not spinn.. the anterior ball turbulence still is.. fins or not.
I do like them tho.. you mag feed those? is that the cylindar underneath your barrel?

No worries. Just clarifying... but you are correct that anything longer than 16-18inch just wastes air and can make unstable..
Sniper Rounds. i'm a dealer and sell them on my online store. they are what I use instead of First Strike.
https://www.pbnation.com/showthread.php?t=3469418
I love them. Fly true and allows you to use on FPO fields. I use a high speed camera on some of the tests. They SLOWLY rotate. Maybe one rotation per 10 yards... So I say they don't, but you are always going to get a little.
Working on a mag, but went with the cylinder first. May build another with a mag feed system sometime in the future...

So they are a whole setup? Or Like you glue the back onto the paintballs. Innovative none the less. Are these your creation or someone else's? They are pretty cool regarless.
I can see your point slow rotation is a huge difference over a normal paintball that spins dramaticly. Either way.. they are interesting little things. What about a spring fed magazine? Something similar to a T4 with a wider chamber forthe paintballs to fit in...?

Sorry, no. they are just the fins you add to a ball. I didn't create them. i'm just a dealer. the company is based in China selling them. I know there used to be a similar product called Sniper Fins a few years ago. but supposedly these are different. Biodegradable, re-usable, and clearer.
Yes, my mag is a spring fed and the marker would be semiauto. Or it could be bolt action..

Avoid problems, go with a TM 15 with a Flasc set up..it's about as quiet as you can get.

uhh. thank god my barrel's only 66 inches
secondly, there are actual paintball silencers... as i've found out.
1. the homemade silencer: take mask foam, wrap it around the porting of a 14-16" barrel, hot glue it or something to the barrel (needs to be glued somehow) then take a pvc pipe (the bendier ones are way better) and put THAT around it. then put a 1/16" wide hole every inch down 4 sides evenly down the suppressor thingy and spray it black (preferably when it's on the barrel)
2. Trinity has a silencer style barrel, that actually suppresses your shot alot!
3. Lapco bigshot 8" with the dishka tip. works best on a poppet valve style marker like an ego5, spyder electra, etc.

DO IT PLEASE. make sure it works on normal pump markers too lol.
i would LOVE to put that on my sniper pump. with the rounds. should probably be field legal.
it would be cooler to do that to an ion, in the body and system of a PP19.

Better go stand in front of the Dishka and not behind it. Dishka's make the gun louder. Might sound quieter from the shooters perspective, but it is louder on the recieving end.
