Shortening the field makes it harder to make the corners. It makes it harder to get wide. But when you do make it wide you get rewarded. They are making it EASIER to stay alive by lengthening the field and adding bunkers.
I'm not sure of what your stance is. So I guess I'm either refuting or agreeing with you.

The nfl did change the rules to favor high scoring games. Just as the NHL changed the rules to favor high scoring game. In the nba they forgive small transgressions like carrying or traveling to encourage entertaining gameplay.
The rules should be changed to encourage higher scoring games. And by extension faster points. I'm pretty sure everyone agrees that the last two year have been fairly boring to watch.

If players have the ability to move easier down the field they will do it. So in reality this change will make moving down easier and more viable.

I agree. The lanes have been rediculous. Seeing D1 matches go 2 - 1 is a snorfest. I want to see fast paced paintball. Teams may choose to sit, but I think this will help get us close back to where the PSP originally was 2004/05/06

I like the changes! More bunkers and more space! It allows players to make moves instead of just shooting lanes and holding them. If a player wants to sit there and shoot paint then let em but as soon as he goes in you can make a move to another bunker and thats game. It shoulnt be all about getting there fast and shooting alot of paint. Its about using the field, bunkers, communication, and playing as a team, since it is a team sport. More bunkers means more moves and thats what really makes the game exciting, seeing players make awesome moves!

So the entire conciseness is take away the race system and go and keep 15 min games? maybe 18min two 9min halves. 15min halves is ungodly long
If layouts are really making for low scoring points then that is just how it should be?
How about layout release early? how does one expect a team to know a layout to get crazy with when it is still fresher then a babies diper. all of us are not pro we get a few days to play before an event.

I'm working on it and it should be out shortly.
I figured that I'd be damned if I were to release one (as most people will complain about it), and doomed if I didn't. So I've been focusing on other more pressing tasks.

After talking to team owners and coaches, countless hours computing information gathered all season long from the games themselves and from the type of games Paintball Sports Promotions wants to showcase, adding a few more bunkers to the existing PSP field is the best remedy to slow Race-to games.
The length of the PSP field increased in 2011 to help keep players alive off the break. Though it helped, those 20 extra feet also increased the gaps between bunkers once primary positions were taken, making the progression a bit more difficult. We all saw countless games going to time again season. We all saw countless players running out of paint on the field again this season.
Shooting more paint cost too much to the teams and slow games are definitely not attractive to watch.
To demonstrate the difference between 46 bunkers and 50 bunkers on the field, we took the most recent layout: PSP World Cup. (see below)
What could be considered as an insignificant change is indeed a crucial one. Looking at the routes towards Snake1 and D1, the total distance is about the same, but that distance is broken into 4 segments with the new configuration, making each move that much shorter.
On the Dorito side, you had to run 27’ off the break, then 19’ from the Small Dorito to the Aztec. With the alternate configuration, you would have a 9’ shorter break and two short bumps: 11’ then another 16’ to make it to that Aztec. You can see the alternate route is much safer and the bunkers much easier to get to.
The Snake would have been even also easier to get too.
At PSP MAO, we all remember that huge gap between the Tall Aztec and D1. An extra bunker would have broken that gap in half, making the game that much faster. (And we would have had an extra bunker to place on the field to offer more options or shorter moves).
Now it’s on you to win your gun battles and get to the key positions before your opponent.
Those 4 added bunkers are shapes we already use on the PSP field. There will be no new shape for 2013, guaranteed.
This new addition will come at almost no cost to those buying a new field and, to those buying the bunkers individually; this is going to be the cheapest PSP Upgrade Kit ever.
We are looking forward to the 2013 season with more exciting games for those on the field or watching the webcast!
|
I read that, thinking that the only change to the field was adding 4 bunkers to accommodate the longer length. Then I see this in another post:
Quote:
Happy New Year to our teams, sponsors, staff and fans! The PSP has been very busy in the off-season spending weeks in meetings working on many developments for the 2013 season including enhancements to the referee program, field adjustments, new marketing initiatives and of course locking in the event dates and venues.
After careful consideration, the league has elected to put the following field changes in place:
1) Two additional bunkers will be placed on each side of the field for a total of 4 additional bunkers.
2) The playing field will be reduced to 150 ft x 120 ft boundary to boundary.
Many more details regarding the 2013 season will be released in the days ahead.
|
Is this why it is taking longer to build a sample field? New dimensions?

PSP and Adrenaline Games,
Thank you for the focus on trying to make the game more fun, more exciting, and yes a bit cheaper as well!
With what just got posted on PSP's Facebook page it looks like they were listening to all the feedback and not only are they adding the extra bunkers but they are reducing the field dimensions back to the old 150' length.
https://www.facebook.com/pspevents
I know they tried to accommodate slower, bigger players, but the length slowed down the game. This will fix that and they can choose to accommodate those players with the extra bunkers as much or as little as they choose.
Good work people!
