I usually take it out a couple times during the process, wipe it a little see how is it coming, I hope you didn't loose any important parts though.

i polished an entire shocker once. looked good for about 2 weeks then just looked beat to s***. the polished metal gets little flaws and scratches much easier and would cause you to re polish constantly, so i sold it wish i still had pictures to show it off.

Send me something to polish, I have nothing to polish right now and I doubt an all polished axe would look good lol, I'm just doing a couple parts.

I just started polishing one of my guns. I will post the body up when I'm done with it.
I didn't use any sandpaper on it though. Just stripped the anno with easy off and used a rubbing compound on it.
Here in a little bit I will go over it with some mothers and then some jewelers rouge.
Edit:

No jewelers rouge yet. I have some trouble spots that I need to smooth out before I finish it.

Has anyone tried Grease Lightning or better yet, Mar Hyde Tal Strip aircraft paint remover to strip the anno? If so, how does it compare with the Easy Off? I would think Mar Hyde would be better since it's suppose to be safer on aluminum, right?

On something like an empire 2 timmy (for example) where the factory color combo is something like a bare aluminum and gloss red accents, is the "bare" aluminum annoed?
Would the piece(s) still need to be stripped or can they be sanded and polished right away?
Also, you might look in automotive sections or automotive forums (or ask a professional detailer) for products to keep polished aluminum wheels protected.
Also, for those who don't have a buffing wheel set up and don't want one but want something better than a dremel or hand polishing, try the Mothers powerball, also sold in the detail sections of auto stores.

That combo would be anodized without a dye. There would still be an anodic layer to remove. I would just polish through it and skip sanding.
