Stripped asa screw! Anyone send theirs back to Dye to repair??

Got a used dyecam nt11 and realized the asa set screw was stripped inside. It will tighten a bit pretty far in but I cant back it out.

Will hold the asa somewhat in place but it rocks and eventually with the weight of my tank will loosen up and slide back and forth.

Jus curious, I'm sure alot of people have had this problem but was wondering if anyone actually sent theirs back to Dye to repair it and what they did to fix it?

Oh yeah, if i keep backin out the set screw, the pin on the bottm of the frame goes up enough and the asa slides off.

Head of the allen or set screw is good, no slippn with an allen wrench.

But inside the hole, the set screw is pretty far in! But if i try to back the screw out of the hole, itll only go so far and starts to get real tight! I prob could back it out all the way but itll strip all the threads in the hole.

Ok...its like this. I can tighten the set screw Up to a point pretty far in, then itll jus keep turning, but if i push on it while turning, itll somewhat hold the asa. But then if you grab the asa and rock it from side to side, not slide it off, it get loose again.

I dont know why people do these kinda things!! Sheeesh! Jus learn to tighten it jus til it holds the asa then stop!!! Dont keep tightening it!

If you can back it out I would run down to the hardware store and get a longer one. Make sure its ss. That way you have more threads holding it.

If you know of any local machine shops, mabye you could get them to repair/replace the threads using helicoil.
You could probably get the equiptment at a decent hardware store, but it would probably cost a great deal.
Helicoil is a spiral that is threaded in a hole larger then the thread you need. The spiral is then screwed into the new hole giving you a correct sized thread witch will be stronger then before.

But, in the process of messing around with it, its totally stripped now. Wont go in further nor back out.

Shipping it off to Dye tomorrow.

Ill post after I get it back and let you know what they did.

Most of the time this problem is fixed by replacing the airport push pin and the airport locking screw. Over time if its adjusted too much the threads wear down and dont hold the push pin as tight, and the head of the push pin gets worn down. Replace those two parts and you should be good to go.

UPDATE: Got my dyecam nt11 back today! Props to Victoria (she is THE best!), Brian and especially That (think that's the spelling!) for helping get my nt repaired!

I realize some people who have the tools and time could do this, I can tech and fix alot on Dye guns, but I jus didn't want to mess with it!
That needed to drill out the old set screw (obviously), which was screwed completely through to the other side and stripped (don't understand why people do this!

) He had to make a larger hole and put in a larger set screw. He did an awesome job and works jus like new! No damage to my frame either!

So to anyone who has a problem like this, don't EVEN hesitate to send it in to Dye! They'll take care it for sure!
