Contest prep is different.
"7 months straight. No stopping, no maintenance weeks, no cheat meals. Why? Because if someone beat me, I didn't want to look back at any cheat meals and ask "what if". I did what it took every single day, and THAT is why I looked the way I did. You either want it or you don't. Just so you know, there wasn't a day that went by in the last 8-10 weeks of that prep where I didn't want just ONE extra yogurt, or 5 less intervals of cardio. But, I was not going to be outworked! I was NOT going to be denied! And you know what? It was all worth it"

Seems more like this for most ST:Fers who try competing.
Not an expect on contest prep, but I think having some cheat days can be beneficial to you physique.

It is, as long as it's controlled.
But if you step on stage, and look like **** because you were lax on your prep, could you be content with yourself?

i think part of it has to do with the ST:F'ers and any person that doesnt compete in bodybuilding AS THERE OWN JOB.
i think a lot of people burn out so much is cause because you are really doing SO MUCH. Jarrod, for example, was a student, had a job, AND he still prepped for his show. Thats a lot to take on. When your doing it as you're job i feel like you have less to worry about (grades, tuition debt)
its almost an overload of things to do, i imagine the balance can be offset very easily

In the end, the question is, was all that "overload" really worth it?
Judging from the statistics, I'm guessing no.

Think about it this way man, Everyone in here know's how much effort is required to be a body builder.
When you're already working that hard at something you love, why would you possibly let something as trivial as a meal come between you and some physical manifestation of your effort? It's the same as every other sport. Those who work the hardest come out on top.
It was all worth it for me. I'd take the trophy over the cheat meals every time.

I get what your saying, but judging from the three others, it didn't seem worth it. Throwing away YEARS of hard work.
Also, it's most likely that the bodybuilder with the best genetics comes out on top. Your can work as hard as you want, but if someone with great genetics and a half decent work ethic jumps in your class, your SOL.

Blaming genetics is never an excuse not to work hard
I think you have to view competing in a BB comp as a "Bucket List" kind of thing to understand why you would want to put in the work required

Probably could have done with less fat, but overall I'm happy. Only one two scoop shake consumed too. I think I'm getting the hang of this...

Never said it's an excuse, it's simply the truth in this sport.
I just feel that a lot of people end up regretting the decision to do the show/prep.

The point of doing a show isn't necessarily to win - the journey is the destination, brahs.
EDIT: That said I'd be intending to win

I don't always eat tuna and cardboard for 12 weeks straight.
But when I do, I intend to take home some hardware.
