The Magno Thread

Everytime I shoot my A1 with magno kit it puts a smile on my face. It's so smooth and efficient it just blows me away. I thought that perhaps we should have a magno thread for those with questions. I'm not sure if one already exists but if it does it's probably not up to date.

What is the magno kit? It's the latest internals available the A1 and the stock internals from the A1 fly. They replaces the ram and valve. The new valve is much higher flow which reduces operating pressure and increases efficiency. This valve uses a magnet rather than a spring to put pressure on the poppet. The valve requires less force to open and allows usage of a ligher hammer, lower LPR pressure and shorter dwell. It makes the A1 much more smooth shooting and brings the efficiency up to around 1700-2000 balls with a cold filled 68/4500.

Where can I get the magno kit? Any one of the places below should carry them if your local shop doesn't.

http://fixmyangel.com/
http://www.performanceangel.com/
http://www.actionvillage.com/AVI-Paintball/Paintball
http://angelpaintballsports.com/Default.aspx

How do I install the kit? Installing the kit is a bit time consuming but well worth the effort. LTHG was kind enough to make videos illustrating both installation and tuning of the magno kit. Here are all 5 segments showing installation.

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Sxp87nolJgM
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Y-Yp-nKhuHk
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=rg7Mu-nWevQ
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=2FwuHHtfmuY
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=LJSuEjOBt84

If you do not wish to install the kit yourself, either fixmyangel or performanceangel could install and tune the kit for you.

How do I tune my magno kit? Again, here are some videos generated by LTHG demonstrating tuning the magno kit. I recommend the following settings during break in: Minireg 200 psi, LPR 55-57 psi and Dwell 6.5 ms. As it breaks in you can work those setting down. I'm currently running Minireg 190 psi, LPR 54 psi and Dwell 5.0 ms with amazing results. Your mileage may vary.

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=SimIHWLni7o

Here is an A1 with magno kit ripping:

Let me know if there are any changes/additions you guys want to see and I'll make edits. Now we have a thread to point people to for pretty much any magno kit questions they might have.

Seriously it does need to be stickied, every time someone makes one of these helpful Magno threads it dies fast, should stay kaput at the top.

It's quite likely that's what happened. You may need to pop in another shim or two if you are going to be running reballs. When you have access to your gauges make sure your LPR recharge is good as well. Finally, check that your breach seal isn't peeling up and your detents are in good shape.

It starts out nice and after 5 cases it will probably blow you away.

well, I am about to install magno valve on my A1 ( by the way, thank you LHTG for your useful videos ) and I have seen from APS website that A1s run at 180 psi with the magno.

When it was stock, my A1 had:

- an ultra LP airtank used on ( 300 psi output )
- stock minireg
- velocity screw about halfway in
- no shim in the LPR , or maybe one , but not 5 for sure

It used to read 54 psi from the LPR gauge that way.

The point is that I don't have the exhaust gauge and will have to tune it with open fingers

My question is:

Considering magno kit have to be used about 100 psi under what used to be recommended for older system ( 180 psi instead of 270 psi ), don't you guys think a minireg mod should be preformed any time one installs a magno ?

No. You don't need the mini-reg mod unless you're using an HP tank. The mini-reg mod simply allows the mini-reg to sufficiently cut the input of an HP tank to a usable output for the gun. The mini-reg will more than sufficiently reduce your pressure if you already have an LP tank. Your tank is actually too low pressure - you should be using a tank with a minimum 450 psi output to get the best performance out of your regs.

well, it is true the "very uncommon" extra LP blue reg I got from crossfire worried me first, thinking I wouldn't get enough pressure to operate the gun...

after using it for a few months on my 2 A1 , it is doing good and the marker shoots like when I borrow some of my friends 450 psi tanks

anyway , you gave me the answer to my question: no minireg mod needed - if one has a LP tankreg -, even with a magno kit

thank you doc

Had my a1 magno'd with 2.7 software at Badlands, only shot a case so far and I'm pretty happy with it. Looking forward to see how it improves after a few more cases

i have a magno ram in my a1, and am buying my fly wednesday, but ever since i got my a1, it had this ping to it, it would kick just a little. but when i put in a magno ram, it was unbelievable. it ripped like never before. i felt like i was shooting a dm it was so smooth. the noise was reduced greatly, and even without the magno valve, it was more efficient. i cant wait to see what the FLY can do
